  1. i think felines and mustelids are just as big if not more so of a problem devastate ground birds more than the possums do laws have been passed to ensure any new animals introduced don't become as big a problem as the aforementioned the usa is a good case of what can happen with unfettered keeping of exotic and potentially dangerous animals
  2. can a farming med for bloat be adapted or contain what is necessary to alleviate problem?
  3. welcome to the forum vee, i hope you enjoy your stay i find our reps leave food when they are full the thickness of the tail and pelvic area is a good indicator of how fat your BT is
  4. wd's still operate at a lower temp than bd's and bt's had our first frost yesterday (micro climate), wd's still active in outside pen i ran babies in heated pen for 6 weeks then into indoor pen just heated water if they are active and eating it means they are warm enough if they stop eating and try to dig into substrate then they are too cold young wd's may try hiding if there is a lot of movement around enclosure as it is part of their instinct to keep predator safe behaviour is a good indicator of what is going on with your animals
  5. raised 7 like that so far just my opinion
  6. a lot of labour in that stand
  7. if you are heating their water you may not need a heat lamp just a reptile light over a basking spot be careful with using a tank that there is enough ventilation
  8. as a stop gap measure you could try a 60 wat red bulb as a heat source splashing water can break it though make sure lizards can't jump onto it
  9. no you won't get in trouble for selling to an aucklander but the aucklander may get in trouble for bringing it into the region only a problem if someone gets officious in auckland region

  20. when we first set ours up we used gravel behind rocks for the land area smooth river gravel and stones as they move fast if startled they kick the stones everywhere they defecate in the water so a lot of muck gets caught up in the bricks, gravel etc ended up with a divider in tank to seperate land and water bare bottom in water side with internal filter land side was small gravel with larger flat rocks on top and planted with acorus rush and other bog plants only had to clean the sponge in filter once a week
