  12. best could be to drain most of water from tank in to large container remove fish then using a net remove top 1/2" of gravel to another container of tank water then remove rest of gravel(the smelly stuff) then redo tank the good bacteria live in the top of substrate using the net helps to clean the gravel and leave the muck behind
  13. hi lynnie, did you research your aro before buying or just fell in love with it?

  16. i cut my substrate back in the large african tank as i found with no water movement through the substrate, it was causing a build up of anaerobic bacteria i think anaerobic is the really coarse language smelling type
  17. i have a few small bits of jave fern now floating in the tank now
  18. wow love the tank pics put some java fern and a log in ours for a change of scenery will have to keep a check on the water prameters though
  19. bring them on ryan, its all about the fish not the photo love the rubescens, methinks i nust add them to the colour scheme
  20. as i understand it a safety factor of 1 would be a minimum for glass thickness as to size of panes so when full of water it might handle the odd light tap or knock i have used a safety factor of 3 for our tanks as they are on public display which i hope means they should be able to handle 3x the impact or 3 x safer than the minimom requirement that said i don't think any tank that is full will stand a good whack with a hard, pointed object this is just my opinion
