  1. Rspec if you are in auckland, call Jansens Mt Eden. They have one at an amazing price
  2. Put the ornament in the new tank? Possibly watching eggs?
  3. They are baby bristestars, i'll try and get a pic later tonight. The big one that still alive travels across the tank to feed at night
  4. Uh, running a cannister filter on a reef tank to polish the water.. Is there any point? Or will it just clog up?
  5. ofc, i'm an internet moron. Type about an interesting discovery, then grab the camera. Oh crap, its hiding
  6. WAY COOL. I HAVE BABY STARFISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE BABIY STARFISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *dances*
  7. milford = sucks Found HEAPS of fish, but no shrimp
  8. I'm pondering where the best place is to catch shrimp. Milford beach, takapuna beach, any other offers? Also on the menu - Couple of hermits
  9. I'm sure if you ask nicely, and provide brown liquid refreshments on here, you could find 4 people easily
  10. From what I was told at hollywoods, for a marine tank, expect to pay around $1k PER FOOT. So. Now you know how much it will actually cost you lol
  11. shrimp pellets - Wardley's Shrimp Pellets? If you are feeding these, I'd advise that you stop feeding them alltogether. i've read on the forums that they can break down, and foul the water rather quickly, because of the very fine particle size... I also know, that if you try an dfeed them to my oscar, he will spit them out.
  12. matt - One option might be to go with getting stuff "custom", and buying stuff as you can afford it.. IE, buy the tank, stand, rocks, and a return pump. (And a large warehouse fish bin) (and salt) Next week - Get the heater, lights, and a return pump, and some plumbing bits Week after - Get a sump, get a circulation pump Week after - Skimmer Week after - probably more lighting. This way, you can start to plan stuff, and not go, wow, i'm 2k in the hole instantly Also means that you can pick up some uber special stuff from TM while waiting.
  13. I'd be interested in coming down on Saturday for the dinner, and meeting people, and then having a look @ stuff on Sunday, but i'm only on a restricted licence... Sooo, anyone live in Hamilton that can supply me with a couch for the night? (I don't have any "showfish" whatsoever...)
  14. Gouramis are unfortunately known as being quite... "Strange".. For example, Dwarf Gourami are known carriers of fishy TB, or something equally nasty Don't get dejected, go bigger, brighter and shineyier.
  15. I think it is, yeah Uh, the disc is %^*@#$, however, the legs seem to have minds f their own, and are moving around the tank. Halp?
  16. Uh. What does it mean when a brittlestar starts dropping parts of its legs, and has a deflated disc?
  17. PM davidb if you want to sell them. 10CM is getting on to be an impressive loach...
  18. Yup. I've also found that when I clean the filters, and refill it with water, gunk falls off the filter pads, and goes all over the noodles
  19. hmm, depending on the width of the tank, a school of Pictus cats would be pretty cool. Or a shoal of clown loaches..
  20. And now, More Pictures! Current FTS: One of my two starfish. Actually thought i'd killed this guy when I dropped a rock on him. Alive, YAY! Feather Duster. (Yeah, in that lighting it does look like an Apstasia, but it has a tube and all... - How do these guys "breed" - I'd love a colony of them ) All tanks with clownfish need turtles... Awes, hiding! Plumbing - I'm planning on using flexible PVC to drop the water from the tank down to the sump, and then back up again. The skimmer will be in-sump, with hard piping directly to the other sump. Wherever possible I intend to pack rock to increase the filtration, and to cut down on water changes. I figure i'll have approx. 25KG of LR in the system when its running. Also, I intend to grow alge in the 2nd sump for further nutrient export, and harvest as required
  21. Try and get them to handfeed, and feed the smaller one with the other hand
