  1. Someone screwed up with the reporting
  2. Cashmere tropical-fish owners and breeders Tristan and Carissa Clements said they were surprised when Biosecurity officials told them their brightly coloured zebra danio fish were illegally genetically engineered. I'm sorry, but if they were breeding these fish and onselling them (TradeMe), as I suspect they were, there is NO WAY that they would have known that they were not GM, due to the number of responses they got stating that they were.
  3. The destroying of GM organisims is to promote NZ as a county. If you don't like the way Govt. departments handle that, try getting in contact with someone higher up in the chain. They WILL listen to advice. The reason DOC don't want you to release those parrot chicks - If one has a disease, it could wipe out the national population. Unfortunately Biosecurity don't have a website where it shows what has been stopped from coming into the country, all we hear is the negative feedback. BK - If you have a point across, please try to use punctuation, and correct spelling, all I can see from that post is a jumble of angry thoughts and words. (Admin, please feel free to modify last paragraph if you think its over the top)
  4. And if you were stupid enough to keep breeding these fish while KNOWING that they are a GM organisim, then you should be expecting "Jack Boots at 2am in the morning" And Brad: Yup. The thread that had the details of some of the members of this forum that were looking to buy these fish TO breed, or were breeding these fish has incidently been hidden. As the owner of the fish was allowed to remove other non-danios from the affected tanks, would you say that MAF were reacting overly harshly? I'd consider that to be fairly considerate.
  5. Little flow, high current. Try putting a leaf or something there, see how long it lasts.
  6. Just a question. Did anyone report these to MAF other than me? Or was the general consensus "see no evil hear no evil"? That they slipped through the cracks is not really the problem, it is this - Why were they not reported sooner? If we, as hobbyists want to get more & varied fish into NZ, why do we not coopearate with maf - IE, released Mollys, Guppies, and Swordtails into warmwater rivers. Why? - Rather than them looking at the way hobbyists have in the past dealt with problems, lets be a little more proactive - "Long, Funky, and What the" is a good example. If we can prove that we are trustworthy, perhaps we can get cooler fish in the future?
  7. In other news my Hemisynodontis membranaceus has started skimming flake off the surface, while swimming on its back
  8. Perhaps she would like to know where the rift lake Chichlids come from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Malawi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Tanganika Or, perhaps the Amazon River Basin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_River_Basin
  9. How on earth is wikipedia "limited" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Fish Find a species of fish, and click search.
  10. From what I can tell, provided they are not physically deformed, or have funny poops, blood in fins etc etc, anything clowns do, is normal clown loach behaviour. I have all of mine currently sitting on a log on their prectoral (I think,,,) fins, waiting for food.
  11. Mine keeps hugging the glass he so cute!
  12. Yup. If you buy a clown loach, EXPECT it to get whitespot
  13. every clown loach i've bought has infected my tank with whitespot. 100% healthy at the store, good colours etc. 4-5 days later, pale, stressed and have whitespot. 2 weeks later, back to being healthy and funny
  14. Idea! Run the plants through a PVC piping, on an angle draining into a sump, leave a small hole that allows for a pipe to be put in to drain the excess water. For the bottom, use scoria. Or whatever kind of porus rock that you have down in chch
  15. can't go for a wider tank, nowhere to put it
  16. Have collected Substrate, and 7kg of Rocks On Order: 1x 915x350x550 (LWH) tank with no bracing and 30mm anti-splashguard around the top, and I have worked out how to put in a sump - Dual sump setup, 400x250x400 LWH, joined with 50mm piping. I think I've sorted a Berlin Classic skimmer, which should be fine (I hope!), And i've got more rock and lights on hold. All things going well, might have water in the tank on my birthday! (I ditched the idea of having the tank on my chest of drawers, i'll be putting my alarm clock there, and having a nano coldwater near my bed with rockpool critters.
  17. 20 gallon is still regarded as "nano" Mine at 200L will be pushing it
  18. looking good Mine hopefully won't be too far away
  19. Give the suppliers a call, explain the ongoing problems and make sure thye have one you can swap over ^.^
  20. There is always a chance that you have a faulty one If you like the filter, try taking just the filter back, and getting them to swap the filters around, (leaving the piping etc in place to save you time), and then just plug in the new one. If you want a refund, please don't yell at the guy behind the couter about how crap its been, as it ain't his fault. And yes, what Alan says is correct. HOWEVER You can ask the trader to fix the goods. The trader must choose between repairing the goods, replacing the goods or giving you a refund. So, if you want a refund, ask nicely
  21. Leopard. Bryan has a real nice one for $100.
  22. faded = stressed 100% chance of whitespot when you get them home
  23. I thought that a 3 foot was a nice size. But yeah, i'm using my 2foot as my crayfish tank.
