  3. I found with raising my whistlers when very young wingless fruit flies were great
  4. probably, I think I almost talked to everyone that was there, who were you or what stand?
  5. they had some beautiful melanistic blue tongues in Sydney earlier this year at a show I went to, quite a few different morphs were on display
  6. why do you say morph? looks like a normal red ear to me
  7. bidding at last minute is a great way to get a bargain and to mess with other bidders heads - also auto bid after putting a last gasp bid on. if you don't want to lose something just put an auto bid on it to whatever you are prepared to pay.
  8. Hi - newts like it cool - so no heater
  9. why change, I always thought 15 was a good age to start to learn to drive maybe they should just put up the drinking age so young drivers can't go out and then drive
  10. I remember catching hundreds of Gambusia and tadpoles down at western springs when I was younger in the surrounding ponds before they were illegal to keep, went back a few years ago to have a look and all the ponds were just dead black water as they have tried to eradicate the " noxious plants and fish" personally I think it was better as living ponds with plants and fish.
  11. interesting henward, didn't realise so many got a visit. didn't people try this way with the Iguana a few years ago? so is this new info?
  12. there is the NZHS annual meeting every October
  13. in the worm farm is just all scraps from the kitchen with wet newspaper on top, not sure how the flys even get in there to begin with as pretty much a sealed unit
  14. here is one link, look it up on the net, a lot of conflicting information I get hundreds out of my worm farm every summer, the frogs and beardies love them!
  15. heard of but haven't seen Northern seen blotched
  16. I personally don't want to see snakes in private hands in NZ, but I do believe they should be in Zoo's as this is what a zoo is for. I also realise there are many snakes that would naturalise in Nz but have been talking about the smuggled corn snakes in particular. I think placing a parallel between corn snakes and tiger snakes is like saying a domestic cat is the same as a lion or tiger.
  17. tiger snake - different kettle of fish and I would be agreeing with you - if he managed to smuggle two of them in his pants then he should be buying lotto tickets! would love to be able to see them in zoo's though.
  18. they were from Bangkok - a bit warmer than Northland eh anyway, if they did get out and managed to last more than a week they would probably get eaten by a stoat, ferrit or maybe the worst predator of native fauna your beloved cat
  19. need a permit for all - unless this has just changed - contact Auckland Doc office minimum cage 600x600x900mm tall, 2-3 sides double mesh (inside ali flymesh, outside chicken wire or similiar) other sides can be glass, ply etc. sort out the cage first then ring DOC and they will come out and check it. last time it cost me around $60.00 for a three year permit.
  20. I agree with all sides of this discussion but do believe sometimes the law makers set the wrong time for the wrong crime, if it was a frog or iguana would he get prison? we wrongly have a thing about snakes, considering even the zoo's can't have them, they are no different to any other reptile, he should have got a fine and a suspended sentence, they should sort out the people killing raping and stealing who do seem to get of easily. at least he might learn something while being in prison - like how to be a "real" criminal.
