  1. They would be referring to the holes that water buffalo make with their hooves when they tred through rice paddies. They are a similar size to a small container and becuase bettas are labyrinth fish, the lack of oxygen and unclean water doesn't worry them. It is not their natural habitat though, only something they can cope with.
  2. Hey hey hey, I think everyones just getting a little bit hot under the collar. And I think evilknieval69 has a huge bee in his bonnet. And anyway, Im not being negative, just realistic.
  3. I wonder what kind of tank youd need to fit your ego into. Seriously, this is a forum for everyone. If no one is willing to answer someones question becuase they could "just go on google" then why do we have fnzas??
  4. Good grief! OK I guess Ill just move to Japan.
  5. So there is a possibility? How much are we talking?
  6. I know that we can't get them as of yet and I know they are not on the approved list but is there any way that enough people wanting them can build up enough support to have some imported? I'd be on the top of the list. The immediate response will probably be no we will never have them but I think that if they are not on the CITES list or a noxious pest that there is a chance we could get a few. Im off to Japan in two weeks so Ill get some photos of rays at my host familys house to make us all jealous. Lets lobby hard for some rays! I would be first on the list for 2 leos.
  7. Mind you...Nothing is Impossible http://mattw.de/japan05/DSC01567a.jpg
  8. Im sorry everyone but this is obviously a fantasy. Who asks for the capacity to be calculated on a forum when it takes a 2 second google search?? Whoever it is quite obviously wants people to know they want a 6000L tank. Such a huge tank would be far from economical in NZ as we don't have the fish selection to justify the thousands of dollars in running costs alone. Go to Kelly Tarltons.
  9. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally picked up two nice and fat ornates and one beautifull butterfly flish. They have settled in very well and are already eyeing up my 5 guppies. The butterfly is outgoing and not hiding in the corner. I love ornates!!
  10. Yeah thats right, right now a big clown knife is going to think my ornates are tasty little worms.
  11. Tomorrow I am picking up my Ornate Bichirs that are about 7cm long. I am anting to grow these fish ready for my 2m tank. The tank right now is 100l and I am thinking i will need to change the tank before I get my huge tank about this time next year. What do you thnk? Im pretty sure I will definetly have to if i don't want to stunt their growth but i wanted to check anyway.
  12. hey thats cool! nearly what my tank will be. Im 10cm higher.
  13. After reading all of those opinions, I think I will definitely be going for 2 fluval fx5s for my 200lx80wx70h which is an updated version now at 980L. I think two would be substantial, don't you? And what kind of heating would be best? 1 1000l heater of 2 600l heaters? or something else? Whats the best lighting aswell? Im wanting to bring out the best colours in my fish especially an asian aro if i can get one. how hard are they to get?
  14. speaking of being annoyed by the fx5, what is everyones opinions on this filter? reliable? easy to maintain? powerful?
  15. cool. 2 fx5s would be so much easier but also so much more boring. I try to make my sump as quiet as possible.
  16. yeah I think I will have a sump becuase I don't like anythig in the tank like heaters and it also makes the experience of owning an aquarium a more personal experience. what do i use for sound proofing? and also, you can have a corner overflow right? ie: one pane of glass making a triangle in the corner? How can you stop the gurgling sucking noise that sounds like a drain if you have an overflow? tia
  17. Yeah LOl if i had the money for so many tetras i would. when I first get the tank im going to put 1 neon in and see how he likes all the space! I went into HFF in ALbany today and talked to them about sumps. they said it would be too noisy for my bedroom?? what is everyones opinions on the noise created by sumps and the overflow section?? Too much for sleeping at night?? soundproofing?
  18. In a few months my 960L Tank will be built and ready. The dimensions are: 200cm x 80cm x 60cm (LxWxH). My first question is if I should run a sump made by me which would be about 150L or so or if I should run a fluval FX5 or two or something similar?? How hard are sumps to make and run? Does anyone have any designs that I can have a look at? And also, how does the water get to the sump from the tank? I hear there are a few different methods, but I don't like the idea of space in my tank being used up by one of those overflow boxes in the corner... Secondly, what kind of fish are suitable? Arowana, ornate bichir, fire eel, oscar, clown knife, black ghost knife?? Are all of these fish OK together?? Sorry for all the questions  TIA
  19. I do complain and it never gets very far. No one listens, its all about the money. And stuff that stupid legal reasons crap I think that people should name and shame people that are abusing the simple rights of animals for their own profit. Sue me
