  3. Red head Tapajos! If they were any cooler they'd be Africans
  4. Certainly are- sounds like a species with very specific locations Can I still call it a 'Best buy" when I never actually paid for it?
  5. Bought it late july at Albany. was a tank of them for $6 at 4-5cm and this guy had a blueish tinge to. He's grown a good 2cm and coloured up heaps Very Nice
  6. Malawi Mafia heading North The Ikola are awesome- I paid $360 for 6X 1.5cm fry 4yrs ago and all gone- so I say 'good buy'
  7. This is mine $6 at HFF-seemed to have a bit of colour so at price seemed no brainer. what have you 'scored' lately
  8. The royals on sale here are 8cm-10cm. Growth rate of 3cm a yr in optimum conditions( so less in a tank your size), it may be a little over 20cm by the time you are 21. But as with Flatfish it will slow down probably before that and while getting to 40cm in the wild it wont get anywhere near that even in a far bigger tank. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... ies_id=337 Mine has gone from 11cm to 21cm in 4&1/2 yrs
  9. You'd get a Royal plus change for that amount. seem to be about $120 retail Will get to 25cm and if male will look like 'Flatfish's avatar in 10 yrs.
  10. The males of sp.44 do tend to show a lot of variations, even to the very dark, almost black males. And as with yours Seth mine will fluctuate with colour intensity and barring with moods. My shots were taking just after feeding when there is the most amount of agression and flaring amongst tankmates. Here is a shot at another time. Less Red when not so 'hyped' but I would say that the red is increasing in him. Of course always a chance that is a mix of a couple of Victorian haps. The 'flamebacks' I searched on a couple of cichlid sites have yellow or red anal fins and less red in tail whereas Sp.44 has more red in tail hence 'sp.44 thick skin Red tail'
  11. Yep -Happy and healthy sp.44 Brownae Hap IMO Here's mine from Mr 'Auckland Jury". Still only young but colouring up nicely-Also feeding on NLS and thatseems to bring out reds/oranges in all my Africans. the fact it slow sinks is good for these guys as they seem to feed near the top so don't get overun by other malawi tankmates. Nice specimen for sure 'SethG'
  12. we've been widening the motorway for your move mate! The place at Alexandra park is gotta be the best for Yum Cha- Turnip cakes and prawn rice noodles-yummy!! Do you mean 'waitress' P44
  13. Your brown is one of my favs Ryan. Feedin on the NLS cichlid and seems to do well on it
  14. Litho bred buy me couple yrs ago and swapped parents for some Electra sometime ago. Have seen them on TM recently in Waikato and 'Peanuts' was breeding a nice strain also.
  15. I plucked my OB out of a group at HFF Albany. He really was the only one that displayed any sort of colour. Wouldn't expect much from him in terms of lineage, but at $6 he was a good buy.
  16. Cheers! I've added 2nd white strip. Now 2 white and 1 blue. Bit more white on foreground, A few new inhabitants and some old. cheers! Tropheops -Chilumba type: Male Female Otopharynx Lithobates male Copadichromis Azureus male Protemela-sp 'Taiwan reef' juvi male Protemela-sp 'Red empress- I have 3 young males from my old Alpha male but they are slow to colour up Haplochromis sp 44-"Brownae hap From Ryan Jury Young Dragon's blood male peacock also from Ryan. OB Cobue from Navarre Chilumba Rubescens-little bit subordinate to maleri Gold Maleri Gold Baenschi Jacobfreibergi
  17. Yeah, it the problem with the 620t, but Discus are a fish that will adapt with the space in terms of volume of water as long water keeping regime is good. A breeding pair even in the wild will only move a small distance from a territory and they don't relly rely on a 'bottom' territory, and therefore wont fight for it, as would multiple pairs of apistos/dwarves. Chances are they would hunker down around the outlet down pipe or a cone if supplied, and spend their time housekeeping. I agree though-The 620T is bit of a Tard_is though
  18. A pair of Discus would be a great show piece and in my mind obvious choice for 140ltr. 50 ltr per Discus is the old 'rule of thumb.' They will get a bit territorial if they try to breed but the other inhabitants as they are won't be bothered or under threat. Either source a pair or get 4-5 juvies and grow out to get a pair. Lots of nice Discus out there for good prices as juvies.
  19. Love thy neighbour X 10!! Well Done that man.
  20. Wont the Geo deal to the plants?
  21. Very nice 'P'- I look at the condition of your apistos and can only summize that plant conditioning equates to optimum conditions for your fish. what are the levels of that tank?
  22. So that would phoenix01?
