  1. i'm trying to visualise what bar mesh stools look like, do you mean as in stools that you sit on at a bar and drink from? where did you get them from, what is the mesh made of? BTW very nice tank TM
  2. looks great markoshark, i thought you said your tank was bad!
  3. Ppl often sit their liverock on eggcrate, this allows better water circulation under the rock and reduces the incidence of 'dead' spots. Speaking of which i need to find someone selling some eggcrate..
  4. Sally also have a look at bubble and squeak on Stanmore Rd they are now stocking corals and fish as well. Those tank pics are a bit old now, at least the rocks aren't brown now . I would invite you to see my tank but im moving tanks on the weekend so won't be setup. The cyano just seems to be a phase (albeit a very long one) that you will got through, i had bad cyano issues which have now disappeared but it does take a lot of patience
  5. Yip going to replace the rio with the vision 450. I've been doing a bit of reading (or at least my technically minded partner has been) and these quite a few juwel tank mods on the UK forums. The wish list of things to do are Remove the plastic braces and replace with clear perspex bracing to prevent shadows from the braces Make a much larger overflow and overflow backup Remove the filter box Make a much larger sump/refugium. At the moment we're thinking of removing one of the upright supports in the cabinet and instead bracing with 2"x4" timber and having a larger sump area. Reduce the amount of live rock and instead go for a more island style affect Its probably going to be a longish term project but still exciting
  6. yeah that will be the plan to transport it upright, if i have to lie it down i guess ill just try and pad as much polystyrene around it as possible.
  7. yip it will be having my 250W MH x 2 x 54WT5 lights suspended above it
  8. awesome, btw what brand skimmer did you buy?
  9. great thanks guys that has reassured me! . Tank is going to be my new reef tank so very excited!
  10. Hi there I'm looking to transport a juwel vision 450 tank, heres a link: http://www.juwel-aquarium.de/en/vision.htm To transport it i might need to rest the tank on the back glass, the tank has a centre plastic brace on the base. Is it safe to transport like this or will it put too much pressure on the tank and risk breakage. If possible i'll transport it upright but may have to transport it on its back if it doesn't fit
  11. beautiful fish adodge, what size are they?
  12. here is a link http://www.thekrib.com/Fish/Algae-Eaters/
  13. i swear my workmates think i'm fish crazy..
  14. a true SAE will have a black line all the way through the end of the tail fin, the false SAEs won't, thats the easiest way to tell
  15. sorry to hear that. i have read on nzmas about someone else who had a blue tang that would swim up to the top and either spit or splash water at them, however i never saw mine doing that. you mention that you have a lid but also metal halides, how do you find that with the heat from the halides?
  16. awesome dixon, well done they must be happy fish

    So upset

UPS will probably only run around 30 mins or so, a battery air pump is definitely a cheap investment
  18. i have read on another forum about a person who had a tank with a shrimp and trigger coexisting happily. They decided to add another shrimp but added it with the lights on, the trigger snapped it up. The theory was that the shrimp was viewed as a food source as it was added in to the water column
  19. if you do add the shrimp and the trigger (which im not recommending for or against) make sure either hte shrimp is added first, or that if added later the lights are switched off so that he doesn't become a tasty snack floating in the water column for the trigger
  20. the other option is something like this, http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~ ... ndor~.html although ill have to find out if you can use them with tunze powerheads rather than the vortech brand. My ideal solution would be to have the powerheads and heater plugged in to something like that and for it to switch on automatically in a power out
  21. The inverters i had seen were around $100 for a 1000W version. I looked at the generator option but after talking to the guy at bunnings he said the cheap versions weren't very reliable, they don't output a true sine wave so not suitable for sensitive electronic equipment and you have to make sure the petrol you keep is fresh (and in a power outage the petrol station can't pump petrol)... so the inverter option looked quite good

    So upset

thats terrible news, seems like there were a few power problems last night.. our power went out for three hours and i was worried about the salt tank. Have you go your powerheads running, its important to get your oxygen levels up by keeping your water flow going, will also help with your keeping your pH at a normal range. Hope your other fish make it. test to see if you've got any detectable ammonia nad if you've got it try and mix up some replacement salt water for a water change if necessary.
  23. Just wondering if anyone else in chch experienced a power cut this morning? Woke up at 4.30am to the house alarm beeping every couple of minutes, apparently a fuse had blown on a breaker and had taken out the power to several house in burwood. Our house was the only one in our lane to lose power but a couple of other small streets lost power also. Power outage lasted until 7am, so i lit the gas fire to keep the tanks warm and started stirring the saltwater tank every 15 minutes to keep the water flow circulating. Didn't experience any losses but i'll definitely be buying a battery powered air pump and possibly an inverter.. anyone else used an inverter hooked up to a car battery to run pumps, heaters etc? Anything i need to check for when buying one apart from the amps required and the watts needed?
  24. i have a tunze and highly recommend them they have the laser level and a backup float switch, pricey but for the assurance worth in imo
