  1. Would be good but I don't know of any up here
  2. Theres some nice native tanks around but be aware that in Auckland, as in most other parts of the country, you will need a chiller to keep the temp down.
  3. It looks very nice. Your three plants to the left of the driftwood may or may not keep growing in the tank. They are what is known as stem plants - they have been grown emersed and sometimes struggle to adapt to being submersed. However all the plants you have can be trimmed and replanted. The one on the left you just break off when it gets too tall for your liking and replant the top part. It will develop roots. The bottom part will bush out where you broke the top part off. The plants on the left, just snip them off below where new roots form and replant the piece you took off. Out of interest, what do you have holding the piece of courgette down?
  4. Are you able to get a photo and post it? I agree that if it was doing it before the shift then it is most likely something else.
  5. Hi Amy-Leigh Welcome to the FNZAS forums. When you get a chance pop up into the Welcome section of the Board Index and introduce yourself. Without a photo I can't imagine what the spots might be however I am concerned that your fish is up at the top of the tank, which suggests a lack of oxygen in the water. Electric blue rams are highly sensitive to water conditions so it is possible that shifting the tank has stirred up any waste lying in the tank. Do you have a test kit to check your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels? If you have an airline and air pump it would be a good idea to add them to the tank or even if you can re-arrange your filter to create more water movement, this would help if it is an oxygen issue. It would also be a good idea to do a 30% water change as soon as you can. Often problems are resolved with water changes.
  6. Excellent information and answer from Jasa. I'll just add that it is best to quarantine all new fish in a separate tank for up to four weeks - minimum of two before adding to your display tank. One week isn't quite long enough and possibly changing tanks twice within a week may have weakened/stressed the male. On a good note your female 'bully' is a very healthy nice looking female.
  7. Sorry to hear. My post was subtly trying to say to you that it was possibly not strong enough to survive and therefore was dying.
  8. I don't know a lot about tadpoles but if the temperatures are cooling down and the water is too, then the metabolism will slow right down. Most creatures/fish live on fat reserves over the winter months. If your tadpole hasn't enough it may not make the winter and morph in the spring. The law of nature - the strong will survive. In the wild tadpoles who do not thrive in the warmer weather don't stand a chance. It's unfortunate but true.
  9. I've got thousands of them too - all over the eaves and windows at one end of the house (mostly remain outside fortunately) and again around my office window (not so good at staying outside). The caretaker here gave us three types of deterrent which hubby left in his office. I'll get them tomorrow and let you know what they are called. The ants here are rather larger than any I have ever seen before.
  10. Is this the same tadpole as the one you asked about the other day? 'I've had a tadpole for over 3 mouths now and it's barely grown at all he's very active and has oxygen weed pond slime and the odd fish flake to eat what's going on Any ideas at all should I be worried I moved him into a bigger tank yesterday will that help its staying at about 2cms long including the tail and the head is about the size of a small pea no signs of arms or legs livingart May not morph until next year now'

  13. You have the wrong snail. Ramshorns are tiny, great for puffers and dwarf chain loaches. Tell you what, you take a photo and email it to [email protected] and I will post it on here for you.
  14. Just do a good water change, keep feeding him well and wait for him to decide to start again. Sometimes males will breed without a bubble nest which is fine as long as there is something on the surface of the tank for the eggs to attach to i.e. plants. By halfway through - what do you mean? There is no defined size for a bubble nest.
  15. You need to give more information than just that like what you are trying to achieve and what you have done. i.e. Is the male just building a nest in the tank for something to do or are you trying to breed him? Did he start building and then you decided to breed from him or have you put a female in or near him to get him to build a nest. If he stopped how many days was he building it for, what the tank is like etc etc. The more information you give the more accurate answers you will get.
  16. Heres a full tank shot taken today. The tank is now 9 months in the making Elegance coral added yesterday
  17. I know you said low tech but what lighting do you have on it and what sort of substrate and hardscape? Also the dimensions please
  18. My discus do not like flourish excel Mind you they don't like pressurised CO2 either but they are stuck with it.
  19. The constitution states that clubs are to forward Conference Delegates names by 14 April. Clubs do not need to wait until their next AGM to decide who will represent them at conference. If the names of conference delegates are not received then the delegates previously elected are the ones given the voting rights. Documents for the AGM will be posted to them at the beginning of May to take to their club May meeting. If clubs choose not to give me the names of conference delegates then so be it. It will be up to you to chase the documentation down. Thank you Tasman and Christchurch for giving me your information.
  20. If you go to the Commercial section which at the bottom of the Trade and Exchange area there is a person Fish2water or F2W (Greg). He stocks poret foam which, while I have never used it, might be just what is needed. Or alternatively google poret foam.
  21. Boing, Boing!! 9 days to go to get your delegates names in, and only one club - Tasman - has forwarded their delegates name.

  23. I have the red sea max C250 and it has the sump at the back. Make sure the area is large enough for you to get your hand/arm right down to the bottom of the tank while holding the pump.
