  2. not sure lol In clearing out the tank the other day there were 2 fry. Either they were his or I put them in there when using a syringe to clean it out. I clean out the new fry tank before I clean out the one with the male.
  3. They don't need a large tank but a heater is recommended. You do not have to have a filter - if you don't you will need to change the water every 1-2 days, if you do have a filter one with a low current is better as males find it too hard to swim in a lot of current. In my opinion at least 20 litres for a single fish with a small heater and filter (sponge filters run by an airpump work really well), temperature 22-27 degrees (mine are kept around 24 degrees), a few plants either artifical or real. Have a read if the following site www.bcbetta.com or look down below in the anabantoids section for more info on keeping these. They are lovely fish.
  4. Weeelll I have eggs - now what to do? I can't move the nest because of where it is so I guess I'll give him another go.
  5. well they are thinking about spawning at the moment so I will have to decide what to do
  6. I have a tin marlin inside my front door, a fish painting in my bedroom and two more in the fish room + a small wooden fish from Fiji on the bar. Oh and nearly forgot - a doormat with angel fish on it.
  7. He eats them about 18 hours into hatching. I did remove some last time but they fungused overnight. Wasn't quite sure how to go about it so added an airline and some melafix but it didn't work. This time I have put two males in with girls with the tank divided. The other male is a brilliant father, hopefully they will spawn together and the other male can raise both lots of eggs. I have also read that the female can raise the eggs although the survival rate is not as great. That will be my next shot as long as he doesn't knock her around too much. He is very aggressive, although tonight when I went out he was behaving very well.
  8. No sorry - don't have any blues at all (in any sort of fighter!!!)
  9. I've also got a small spawn of yellow ct from the male I got from you and a full ct female (yellow with platinum blue shades) but they are only just 2 weeks old. Not many - only 16 but so far so good. Mums only young and it took them about 10 days to actually get round to spawning but he's a very gentle male so all good. Dads turning out a real stunner, huge crowning particularly when he flares.
  10. Can you see any colour yet - if not get out a torch and take a better look. The parents are nice coloured fish so I wonder what these colour up like.

    some pics

Thought it was time to post some updated shots of some of my young cts plus a few others. These are my second generation and now I'm looking for nice males and females if anyone has them out there. They must be pure ct's as I really want to improve the line.(not getting picky). Some females - just coming up 3 months At this stage a couple are nearly pure platinum white (their grandfather was a platinum red) Some males from the spawn (they are in the blue fighter traps) and heres my halfmoons - Dad is beautiful but is extremely rough on the girls and has killed a couple. He's also an egg eater so not having much luck with him.
  12. nice - are they hm? What colours are the parents? I've taken some pics today as well so will post them this evening.
  13. If you want to get small discus you will have to do large daily water changes. When they grow up you will need about 50 litres per discus. 4 discus would be the absolute minimum number imo and in my tank I have 6 as a smaller number didn't work. Bigger discus need less water changes. They do however require a bit more work than guppies to keep them happy and healthy. There is a lot of debate about keeping discus in planted tanks but mine do okay. I water change every 2 - 3 days at about 50% if the tank (200+ litres). The above is pretty much what Ryan has told you.

    help

I am also female - but you probably already know that yeh buddy.
  17. Hi - welcome to the forums. There are lots on salties on here but you may need to post this under the saltwater section further down the page from the beginners section. I don't know anything about saltwater tanks other than they are expensive to set up, cost a bit to maintain BUT are absolutely worth it when its done properly. I would love one myself. Maybe one day. Introduce yourself and put your location in as there is bound to be someone nearby.
  18. Congratulations, you will be delighted. Great fun and good time wasters too.
  19. I find that the more I feed bloodworms the more dropsy I get in my fish. While there is no proof that this is a cause I know that if I only feed once or twice a month I don't have problems but if I up it to once a week the odd fish will get dropsy and if I feed it more regularly then more fish will come down with it. Once I stop feeding them then no more dropsy! As I said 'no proof that bloodworms cause dropsy'!.
  20. I find fighters to be peaceful. To stop his aggression try containing him within the tank for about a week and then releasing him back. He will then be the new fish in the tank and a bit quieter - for a while at least! Did he kill your neon - possibly but unlikely. If the fish had a bent spine it was probably on the way out anyway.
  21. I concur. Doesn't look like fin rot, it normally starts at the edges like a torn rag.
