  1. Have you any angels in the tank because they most certainly will suck the fry out.
  2. algae bloom - turn off any tank lights and black it out for 2-3 days. Lower the amount you are feeding as well.
  3. Here you go - I still haven't perfected the art of taking someone elses picture and putting it on for them.
  4. Just behind the ventral fins. Please note that young males can appear to have an egg spot.
  5. Like Cellophane, these are colourless Betta splendens both in the body and fins. The difference is the eyes also show no coloration and are therefore red in appearance. Albino is the one of the rarest Betta colours. Breeders suggest that only one Albino in 10,000 actually spawn. Albino is actually a genetic defect that causes loss of colour pigmenting. A characteristic of any Albino fish is that the eyes are red. http://www.thatfishshop.com/ichthyology ... olours.htm I would really love to see pics of peoples half moons. I keep hearing that lots of people have bred them but have only seen three peoples actual spawns.
  6. Check your filter to make sure its not clogged with muck. Big water changes each day. Add an airline or airstone as high ammonia will make them come up to the surface for air. 60 litres is probably a little on the small side unless you are doing big daily water changes. They will grow faster if you change the water daily anyway. I had this happen in December and lost one of my discus + heaps of cardinals and neons. Cause I think was the filter wool was clogged and I had been a bit slack over the previous 10 days on water changes.
  7. Happy Birthday - you don't look anywhere near that great age. What a neat bike - its the same colour as mine!
  8. I thought it was Woks dinner!
  9. Very pleased to hear you found him. You'll have to get a dog of your own in case it ever happens again
  10. Probably is a male but females do flare and can be really stroppy. Try putting in a container within your tank and seeing what happens as a male will build a bubble nest and then you will have a definite answer. I haven't seen females up here for ages.
  11. Might still be more as sometimes they dive into the gravel and hide there as well when anyone or thing comes along.
  12. Saltwaters a lot easier - is the beach too far away?
  13. more crowns, heaps more and finer. Yours is a nice fish.
  14. I can't post a pic but when I was at Aaron11's house the other night he had a male with a tail like my crowntail fighters. Very nice it was.
  15. You can. If you have plants in the tank it will be better. The reason for this is that the male will spend quite a bit of the time harassing the female but it there are hiding spaces or if the tank is big enough she will be able to get out of the way. They can and will breed in a community tank however the fry will not survive. They can and sometimes will breed every 3 days which is why the female needs to have some 'space' of her own. Otherwise get a couple of females.
  16. Welcome to the forum - I can't help with what to feed them but how long have you had them and how is your tank set up.
  17. Probably not - some of my adults have theirs but not the ones who have been with males
  18. Briefly its when the fish bloats enough to cause the scales to stick out so that from above it looks like a pinecone. Cause - I'm not sure of the original cause but at the stage it begins to swell it is because the internal organs of the fish are beginning to shut down and it is retaining fluid. Cure - no definite known cure. The fish generally need to be euthanaised (sp?) as they will die. Putting epsom salts in the water will help but does not seem to cure 'dropsy' in its proper form.
  19. here you go might pay to post under diseases or ask a mod to shift this. Its definately not dropsy and I'm quite sure its not constipation. I would imagine something bacterial but I don't know much about these fish at all.
  20. I agree, it didn't grow the way I imagined and my discus managed to pull out the hair grass as well. I'm wondering about dwarf chain sword (not sure if thats the right name for it),
  21. How big (fat) is she. If she's marble shape she'll be ready but if she's just barred up either leave her where she is or put her in a container inside his tank. If you do it tonight by tomorrow evening or the following she will have filled out like a ball. When this happens release her into his tank. They will probably spawn first light the following morning. Leave them alone unless one is getting seriously ripped up, try not to keep watching. If the male stops building his nest during this time or the nest disappears don't worry about it. As long as there is somewhere, either plants or a container for the eggs to float inside they will be fine. I had a ct spawn hatch a couple of nights ago and no bubble nest was built until after the fry had hatched - go figure! Theres at least 20 of them. Good luck.
