    L137?

now I haven't seen any that look like those before. Where did you get them or is it a 'secret' Just joking!
  2. male fighters and male guppies sometimes nibble at each others tails and yes female fighters do scrap occasionally with each other but won't do much damage except the odd torn fin which heals okay.
  3. Sounds like he probably developed dropsy, unfortunately anabantoids seem prone to it. Nothing you can do once they develop it either.
  4. If you put some blankets over the tanks when you're not around and at nights the heaters won't come on as much, or put your tanks into the room thats used and heated the most if you can.
  5. yes you should as its a public holiday
  6. I'm not into rainbows but I would say its some sort of rainbow fish. From what I've read tetras and smaller fish are considered 'snacks'. Snails will have come in with plants or water from other tanks etc. For them to be at the top of the tank the water must be very low in oxygen. I would keep changing the water - up to 50% may help. Just make sure its about the same temperature and add water conditioner or what ever you normally add to try and not add any more stress to the fish. You will most likely lose some (fish) over the next few days whatever you do from ammonia burns if it is this. Where do you live?
  7. good to hear you have some nice ones
  8. I don't know about down your way but up here they open up at 1pm (the earliest shops are allowed to open on Anzac day). I don't imagine the shops will miss out on one of the busiest days of the week.
  9. I'd say that the female is still too young as is the younger male. My young male has only just realised that he should fertilise the eggs, not eat them! Now he needs to learn that when he fertilises them he shouldn't knock half them off the pot.
  10. Don't be. Theres a 'male or female' topic running in the Off Topic section of this forum at the moment and its quite interesting.
  11. My tank (450 litres) has settled at a pH of 6. Fiddling with pH causes more problems than leaving it and as long as the fish don't absolutely require a specific pH they will be fine.
  12. I agree as to a mini ammonia spike. Do a water change if you haven't already and if you can add an airline to pump oxygen into the water. The ammonia will make the fish come up gasping for air. Also check your tank temp in case its the heater although I would say ammonia. When you do a tank clean you need to stagger what you do i.e. big water change and rinse out the filter in tank water or water change and gravel vacuum. The filter wool holds a large amount of bacteria. If you clean everything totally you will kill off the bacteria which cycling your tank has established.
  13. To post a pic on here you need to use a host. I use www.photobucket.com. It is free and easy to use. You can email me the photos if you can not get them to work and I will post them for you. I will pm you my email address. I am not sure if you know how to access any messages you get so if you look at the left hand side of the page under the logo you will see a box with .. new messages. Click on that.
  14. Mostly when 'pair' is said it usually means that they are male and female. 'Breeding' pair means that they should have spawned and raised fry. Pet shops won't know that as the majority they sell are imported.
  15. they are very nice - love the colours.
  16. Unfortunately you may find that they are never going to be compatible. Very nice fish though.
  17. I'll be interested to know whats in Seoul as well. We have just under a day there on the way to Italy in September.
  18. Hi, How many fish did you have in the tank. 28 litres is not much and from what I have read (never had my own goldfish) under the coldwater section of this forum goldfish are pretty messy fish. It may be that the tank is too small for more than one fish. Ammonia builds up very suddenly, if your fish are messy it may be that the water will need to be changed every day or two - about 30% at a time. Another thing is that when you rinse out your filter you need to rinse it in the water you have taken out of the tank and not under the tap as fresh tap water will kill off any beneficial bacteria held in the filter and it is that, when established, that helps keep the ammonia levels down. For more advice from those more experienced in keeping goldfish you might be best to post under the coldwater section on here. Good luck

    breeding kribs

I had more luck in a bb tank but that may have just been that mum got hungry the second time round lol. I just had a cave in there and they laid on the roof of it.
  20. Fabulous photos everyone. Heres a few I snapped last week in the Wai-o-tapu area, Rotorua.
  21. Not a dumb question - there are no such things My tap water is 7.4 - 7.6 and my discus tank sits at 6 or lower (6 is the lowest my test kit goes) and even a 50% water change hardly brings it up. It dropped as the tank matured. I have driftwood in the tank which does help keep it down. Unless you are keeping fish that need high pH don't worry about it. More damage will be done by swings in pH than leaving it low. The more you fiddle the worse the damage will be.
  22. Not in Auckland - but Motutapu Island and Rangitoto have fantastic driftwood and the ferry operators are very good about letting the odd piece come back on their boats.
  23. great video and the photos are amazing - it hardly looks real
