  1. heres an update pic - its hard to tell as its not that great but the biggest difference is in how much the tail has spread out. Now I can tell they are not vt. There are 3 males quite a bit bigger and one female. However they will have to coexist for the mean time.
  2. I, like Caryl, would have thought that comment would refer to the many types of fish in the tank rather than than how many were in the tank. If you've had it for a while, it works and you're happy ignore the comments.
  3. Mr Plec comes on the forum occasionally - try sending him a pm or email.

    FX5 media

What media does eveyone use in their FX5 and in what order?
  5. I'll post a few more pics of the same fish. Looked at them tonight and the tails and fins are starting to fill on on the biggest 20 or so.
  6. I've split them between 2 4ft 100litre tanks and they are starting to really grow. I hope they slow down a bit. I don't want them maturing before another 9 weeks really :-?
  7. you probably missed him cos he looked like a vt when I first saw him. very insignificant looking in a big tank.
  8. If its your first time for discus I would recommend getting them at 5-6cm minimum and growing them on to full size. At 2cm you will be needing daily 90% plus water changes if you want to keep them alive, healthy and growing, or they will be stunted. A good rule of thumb is 1 discus per 50 litres of water.
  9. Hi, I stand corrected These guys are 9 weeks old not 7.
  10. from a landlords perspective - make sure you have permission to sublet, normally you sign an agreeement with the number on tenants written on it check who is paying for water (and waste water), don't know if it will apply to you and for your sake make sure the bond is lodged and you get a receipt don't flat with someone who owns the house and is using you to pay the mortgage, they will probably be anal about the place you can get a form which you fill in and this requires the landlord to make repairs within 10 days. Use it and keep a photocopy. Make sure you write down on your agreement every last dent, ripped piece of paper, broken fence planks etc.
  11. I think its a really good idea if you can get away without glue as it means that you can take out the whole lot for a really good clean when needed. It beats fiddly corners.
  12. Some males are egg eaters and theres nothing you can do. Some males only eat non-fertilised or fungussing eggs. Females don't normally eat the eggs after they fall to the ground, they usually pick them up and take them up to the nest as well. What makes you think that they are not being fertilised - if he's wrapping around the female properly and squeezing then the majority will be fertile. You can transfer the eggs to another males nest but they will need to be at exactly the same stage of development i.e. spawn two males and females at the same time. Theres a good chance the other male will raise them if you can do it gently without upsetting him or making the nest too full of eggs for him to look after.
  13. I got him from pet world, rotorua
  14. heres another pic showing the colour range
  15. thanks - I was hoping you might answer as I know you have or have had leopard fish.
  16. I've been asked a question and have no idea. Will the above co-exist in a well planted tank Thanks
  17. Well I thought if you wanted one, you could have a male when they get bigger for knowing all
  18. Does anyone know if these two would be okay in the same tank. I know nothing about leopard fish except that it belongs to the same family as the fighter. Opinions welcome.
  19. A-town is right on the nose Dad was a black delta tail, mum a marble delta/halfmoon. Some interesting young fish, a lot with black marbling on them and some with black from the middle of the body to the end of the tail, but a white front at this stage, some with a mix of colours, a few that look pure black. some reds, reds & blacks, some blues. Heres dad, I onsold him due to going away.
  20. My red pine does that if it is taking the full blast from the filter outlet on the lower parts of the stems. I have some here if you want to come and pick up a bit. Its easy to propagate, just break it off and replant it.
  21. they are only 7 weeks old so not for sale until I get back from Europe in mid october
  22. Heres some pics of my 7 week old fighters. Seeing as I am bored I want to know if anyone can tell me what tail type they are (I know, but do you?)
