  1. when we moved up to auckland we gave dozens of preserving jars away to the salvation army. give them a ring.
  2. Neons and siamese fighters make good tank mates.
  3. I'm heading back down to ChCh on 17 April - I know its a few weeks away but keep me in mind if anyone needs anything brought down from here. In the meantime I have a funeral in the next few days for our friend who was in the CTV building at the time. At least now the body has been identified the family can have some closure.
  4. Why you not at school Josh????
  5. My pygmys don't come out and the ember tetra are no better
  6. no probs - at the moment the body is silver. The photos were taken through the blue betta holders which changes the colour a bit and the bottom pic was taken across the entire depth of the tank which is about 25cm. They are only 13 weeks though and still growing but it appears they will be plakats. The rest of this spawn appear to be the dragon hm.
  7. They aren't cambodians they are dragon through and through.
  8. will post some better pics of the above tomorrow - you can't see the tails properly
  9. I've got some young bn which are going free to a good home. Not sure how many but I guess between 8-10. Anyone want them. I can bring them to the meeting.
  10. The only thing I can say is that I have noticed they are very sensitive to different water conditions. I lost two out of four overnight last year when I moved them into a different tank. Mine looked alive but were motionless - 'frozen in time'. Its not likely to be the tetra colour bits but I do assume you are feeding them the food they need as well.
  11. We all do it (go on everyone, admit it) and personally, if I don't do things properly daily then I ultimately pay the price.
  12. Hi, welcome to the forums. Have you kept fish before? Any questions feel free to ask away then think about what you've been told and decide what you want to do. All contributions are welcomed You'll find watching fish is a great way to get the little one to go to sleep They seem to have that effect on most people!
  13. BD - The property owners should also have insurance cover if yours doesn't cover it. Jennifer and Alan - it was good to catch up with you both yesterday. I was scared stiff when the 4.8 hit just after 7pm last night and kept waking during the night thinking there had been another one! No one who does not live in ChCh can really appreciate what is going on down there. No amount of news can show what it is truly like.
  14. I will be there, I will I will!!!! Josh, do you want a ride? Ice222, do you want a ride? Pink_fish (sp?), do you want a ride?
  15. Actually there are several of us concerned with the ChCh situation atm. Those who really want to know what is going on and how much progress has been made would be better off joining up than constantly asking. I, for one, am getting a little tired of the pestering that is going on about whats happening. If you join, you will find out and perhaps even be able to contribute.
  16. Never worry about asking 'stupid' questions. No questions are stupid and no doubt there is someone else wondering the same thing
  17. thanks mcrudd and icthus - I did not want to make a statement about air bubbles until I knew what sort of filter the tank had. Turns out I wouldn't have been able to help anyway I was thinking airlock in a cannister!
  18. couldn't find what I was looking for on google - I fill most of mine to somewhere between 1-2cm from the top. How does the filter work - is the filter inside the lid and does it use a power head to suck the water up and then trickle it back though the media into the tank?
  19. what sort of tank do you have?
  20. Thanks John. I missed that one - the last one of course. Dad's okay, very very nervous but at this stage does not appear interested in coming up here for a few weeks for a break. I am flying down on Friday so hopefully he will return on Sunday with me but doesn't want to leave his horses, house etc. Nothing has been heard of from our friend and it appears that the body may not be able to be identified when or if they do find him One of many.
  21. Has anyone heard from Trilobite? I've just checked through these posts and can't find a post from her. She's in Burwood.
  22. Its not illegal but it is a sensitive topic among some and is better discussed in private imo. However think 'food chain'.
  23. I don't think they would care - its all about being able to get through some of the roads and the ordinary cars won't make it  but yes, I know what you mean about the aerials.
