    new tank

think that stuff might have impurities... Alanmin will know
  5. how big is your tank and how much water movement currently. my pair are in a 60x30x30 tank with a 500LPH hang on the back filter. i think this is better than internals as internals create quite a bit of flow... do you have any pics of your axo's for us to have a look at to see if there is anything wrong?
  6. thats damsels for you... which is why most people don't like keeping damesels, or if they do they add them last

    new to killies

Short answer. NO please do not put killies in this tank!!!! Killies are very small and quite timid. They would likey be eaten in the first day... Killies are best in species tank, and make sure you don't mix different killie species if you have M+F
  10. yeah looks like aurea to me
  11. nono.. 150's will be fine... but if I was you I would go for 3x 150's not 2x... Its the spread of light we are interested in here, no the intensity. My tank is 600 deep and I have no problems keeping SPS under 150's. I have a clam doing well on the bottom of the tank as well as all SPS doing well... Just I don't think 2x150's is enough spread for a 5 ft long tank. Cheers-Dave
  12. 2x 150's would be stretching it on a 5ft tank... I have 2x 150's on a 3 ft... I'm not saying its not possible, but it would mean you couldn't put corals wherever you wanted in the tank... the SPS would have to go directly below the halides... In saying that many people do go down this route, It just means the rock pillars you build will typically need to be built below the halide so the corals are close to the surface.
  13. Anyone know where I can buy a clip on light with a bit more wattage than the little Jebo Ones? I have the 9W and 11W models already but I'm looking for something minimalistic to light a new nano I am desighning and want something with 25-30 watts output... Can anyone offer suggestions? Cheers, Dave
  14. Welcome to FNZAS!!! That size tank would be fine. In Auckland an ornate Birchir would cost about $80- $90... Infact there are several at Hollywood Fish Farm in Mt. Roskil if you are up this way sometime
  15. yes the main reason why it is not reccomended to mix angels with discus is because Angels are more 'hardy' than discus, and can carry different diseases which are not particularly damaging to the angelfish itself but can be lethal to discus
  16. neons are not the best tankmates for discus as they don't do very well in temperatures of 28-29, they prefer 24-25. Other tetras that would be better suited include Cardinal tetras or rummynosed tetras... some people find glowlight tetras or Bleeding heart tetras good also and they are alot cheaper than rummynoses or cardinals. Other good fish are clown loaches, corys, SAE's, dwarf pencilfish, Rams, fancy plecs, etc... hope that helps
  17. giant ones? Giant centipedes are cool pets
  18. how big are the rocks and what type?
