  1. I know where to find them wild, but Im not telling ,as Stella said, they are nearly on the threatened list. The local LFS here sells them though( cant confirm where they source them from though). They had about four or five available the other day.
  2. Yes Alan, the one you are thinking of is the one I thinking of too! I just posted that link cause the name. The plant? does it have pink and green ruffled leaves?
  3. The fish shop in Hastings (used to be palmers garden world, although I think it changed names now) is worth a look. was earlier this year when I went, and think it has changed hands now. worth a stop though
  4. Umm, Ive never spoken to you before. Its not my tank.
  5. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/plant_survey/aq ... fb25dcc3ca Does it look like this??? A pic would make ID easier, as LFS call plants all sorts of name. Most don't even know what they are selling
  6. I been to petworld before I think( if thats the one on the main road north) Where is world of water? Is it any good? Not to worried about Animates as they are much the same wherever you go.
  7. As the title says! What fish shop are there to visit in Hamilton, other than Goldfish Bowl, as I know where that one is. Cheers Simon
  8. Same with me, unless my lovely other half makes plans for me
  9. Hi May be able to help, Im going to auckland tomorrow and coming back sunday. My mate is from Johnsonville and picking me up early tomorrow morning. Will have to contact him tonight if he is home and see if he could bring it back for you. No promises though as he is the one driving etc, I am just the passenger. Will let you know tonight.
  10. Awesome Mincie Seeing these pics makes me wanna buy myself some. Although the missus would never agree, as I have to sneak even the smallest fishtank inside and say Ive had it all along
  11. For reflection of light,I used this stuff. http://sog.open24x7.biz/catalog/product ... c2a948ee5f Got 3metres for $29.00, works out cheap for the small amount needed. I got heaps left over for future use. Cheapest option in my opinion, considering the price of paint etc
  12. Umm sorry, I do not agree with the above statement. why then do they not wrap expol, or do they not wrap the poly that is layed into concrete for insulation. water has no effect on poly!!!! Fish bins are made of polystyrene, the get filled with water, yet the polys insulating characteristic does not change. why do you think it is used for disposible cups. Following extract taken from Expol website www.expol.co.nz Polystyrene Insulation has excellent thermal insulation properties essentially because it consists of mainly stabilised air. It is a durable, non-irritating, inert organic material which will not rot and is highly resistant to mildew No nutritive value to ants or rodents Suffers little or no effect from water or water vapour. Even under the most adverse and rare conditions of total prolonged saturation it maintains its shape, size, structure, cohesion and physical appearance. The effect on the insulation value is minimal
  13. Permanant Id use No More Nails Temporery, Id use wood screws with washers
  14. With goldfish, if you get the plants established before introducing fish, you will have more chance of plants surviving. Mouses ear (Saururus cernuus) Should be fine, let it get its roots sorted first. Also java moss, maybe
  15. The bulbs were in the tank when I bought it secondhand. Thats the only thing written on the bulbs so cant tell you much more. Ive got some Osram 840 36w daywhite bulbs here also, that I was given. Might swap them at some stage, but all seems to be good for now. You are right Alan about the light and water but there is also the glass cover between the plants and the light, so its not as good as it could be.
  16. Only light source are 3 X 36 watt T8 tubes. 5600k x 2 glowlux Bulbs were in when got tank a few months ago so prob need new ones and maybe different bulbs, but am happy so far with growth.
  17. The bubbler is to create water movement, evens out the temp. also create humidity by splashing water upward. At this stage no water dosing as they will be moved to cascading tank when it warms up at nights more. Yes fert in potting mix water temp is 26 air tem 20- 26 , upper temp when lights are on. 12 on 12 off, equator times, lol Next question?
  18. If its noisy its got an air lock. Stick your lips on the outlet and suck. they can be a pain in the but to get started sometimes
  19.   Your excused, Its friday
  20. Ok so the plants are now all growing emersed. Just waiting now for the weather to warm up a bit more before I set up the divided tank. But heres some pics of the plants so far.
  21. Is it a thick oily scum, or a light sheen? If it a light sheen it can be remedied by creating slight surface agitation, although this does not help in regards to the co2 injection. mine has the same but it never get to bad so i leav it
  22. Simple really.... Look at the price of postage quoted. If your ok with that buy it. If not dont buy it... I dont see what the fuss is about.
  23. Id be keen too. Just depends with work commitments.
