    HELP!!!!

With a planted tank it is usually best not to disturb the substrate too much as the plants roots get damaged. Just vacuum the surface layers of the gravel to remove excess poop and detrius. Disturbing the JBL Balls will not harm fish(they just think its mud)but will release extra nutrients into the water column, possibly increasing the risk of algae. In my planted tanks i very rarely vac. Just remember to feed no more than necessary, it just pollutes the tank if not eaten. HTH
  2. Maybe its nots an egg. Maybe its a gall stone, lol
  3. Java fern grows better with water movement over the rhizome. Mine is placed directly infront of my filter outlet and is growing like mad. Mind you I do have co2 set up on the tank.
  4. Ive got some anubias growing outside. It ggrows great, until we had a cold snap. It didnt ike the sudden drop in temp and shed its leaves. It grows even slower in cold water than it does in tropical though.
  5. So???????? How was the opening night? First race? I never went so dont know if you raced or not.

  9. A bit off topic, but, I read that in the wild, if you see a tiger in the bush that the chances are you are already doomed, and cant get away. They are such great hunters that you wont know they are there until its to late to defend yourself. I think that tigers are the real kings of the jungle. thats my 2c worth
  10. Yeah, a security guard.lol   Seriously though. Im in appliance retail, and its acknowledgement thats the most important.I mean customers are the reason I have a job. The hardest part is, as shown here in this thread, that its different strokes for different folks.
  11. This was brought up recently in a thread and this link was interesting http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/a ... weight.php
  12. I have a Aqua One CF1200 on one of my tanks. The only way I can tell if its going is to look for the waer movement in the tank. Others have said they are noisy, but mine is almost silent. The frost free fan system in my fridge is louder

    Discus

Personally I think some fish look great with peppering. Discus are the best, I wish I never sold mine when I did.
  14. Um, Golden Lloydiella IS lysimachia
  15. Does it look similar to this??? This is lysimachia

    Discus

With discus, the older they are, generally the easier they are to look after. Thats why they demand a higher price. The hard work has been done. If buying for a planted tank, I suggest getting some full grown fish. If you buy small babies, its better to grow them out in a bare bottom or similar tank. Its easier to keep the water clean, as clean water is the making of healthy discus. HTH
  17. Ive always found them helpful. One of them even knew who I was because of my posts
  18. Agree with Alan,Potamogeton crispus, it grows in a few of the coastal lakes around Wanganui Manawatu areas.
  19. Just a neat pic of my dominant male.
  20. Im rearing some from eggs my mate gave me from his pair. I think they are ugly things , but rearing them to say I have.I like the challange
  21. Give it time then. Four weeks is very new for a planted tank. The plants will be hardly growing yet because they are sorting thier root system out, then you will see growth above substrate. the ones growwing fast are stem plants and usually have aerial roots and absorb nutrients from the water coloumn. The brown algae will die off as the tank sorts itself out nutrient wise. Time is all it takes.......... HTH
  22. How long has the tank be set up for Henward?
  23. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/16-vt1 ... &start=225 Scroll down the page for pics. I never made it last time because of work commitments, but will be keen this time if work les me go
  24. NO!!! It means you have an excess of nutrients in the water, either from fish waste or overdosing of ferts. Most likely ferts as earlier you stated you are dosing tank, but with the lights on for only three hours the plants cant use it. I too grow lots of plants and sell on trade me, and my lighting is on for 11 hours per day with CO2. In fact I own more plants than fish in my 9 tanks total.
