  1. I give him small pieces of carrot most days and occassionally brocolli with his greens and other veges but he has always been very hard to get veges and salad into him. So he doesnt get near as much into him as he should. Just a small bit now and again. Unfortunately he is a very fussy eater.
  2. No there is no discharge. He went for a vet check a couple of weeks back and the vet noticed him doing it but couldnt see anything wrong with his eye, but he still does it and quite alot.
  3. wondering does anybody elses dragon often close an eye. Would anybody know is this normal behaviour or not. Thanks.
  4. Hey Elaine i bet that made you smile from ear to ear. Good on ya Doza, come and have a word in Calypso's ear please. He's as stubborn as a mule.
  5. what brands/types would you recommend for a bearded dragon enclosure. At present i have three different brands and even when they are placed in the exact same spot, they all come up with different readings, and i never know which to believe. Thanks.
  6. Hi Elaine, My fella is going on eight months and no matter how or what i try to do to pursuade him, he will not touch his veges or salad. If a piece accidentally goes in with something live he screws his eyes up and stops eating. If i wiggle it around in front of him his mouth will stay tighly closed. But still we keep trying. :-?
  7. Hi guys, sorry to butt in, but what do the initials LFS actually stand for. Thanks,
  8. Hi Chilli, Sorry to hear about Iris. Calypso got burnt from his heat lamp when he was little and the vet said to use iodine, so you are definately on the right track. I dabbed it on with a cotton bud. They are such a worry these little critters, but they are worth every ounce of it. Take care.
  9. Hi Lush, welcome to the world of beardies. I have had my fella six months now and I can tell you something, you may get lots of worries like you have just experienced, but you will never regret having him. They are the most amazing creatures ever. Enjoy your new friend.
  10. Hi, my fast growing little bearded dragon nearly six months old is rapidly outgrowing his terrarium. Has anybody here had a terrarium made for them or know of someone that they would really recommend. Thanks.
  11. Hi Frazer, Your lucky Calypso is very finicky when it comes to his salad. Every day its a huge struggle to get the smallest amount into him. i put mealy worms in or wax worm larvae under his salad and he very carefully picks them out, i wiggle bits of green, carrot apple cucumber in front of him and only seldomly will he take a bit from me. Live food its a different story however. The guy from Animates told me if he doesnt get his greens and veges he will grow too big for his bones. How long is buddy now. Calypso's growing fast. Just wish he would eat his greens.
  12. I think its awesome how beardie owners support fellow beardie owners. It's great to hear he is back home where he belongs, safe and sound.
  13. Thought I had lost my four month old BD last week. Took him out the backyard for my nieces to see and he freaked when they came up to him and bolted under the woodbox which is beside another building that was built a few inches off the ground. I tried to grab him but he was so fast. The feeling of dread was amazing. About five minutes later i saw him hiding under some shrub cutting just away from the woodbox, and only his wee body was visible. I was very lucky, and i hope you get the same results. All the best of luck in finding him.
  14. Cool .... thank you will try the mirror see what happens re your other comment - just what my mates say to me - and do i listen ...
  15. Hi guys, my beardie is just four months now, and just lately he has been turning his neck (beard) area black. He looks very happy and contented but his home is getting too small for him now, he is 10" , mostly tail thou, and his home in only 2 foot long, and he is always wanting to come out for a run. His UBV lighting is only one that hangs down from one end. Could this be the reason. Also we had major panic this morning, he is used to going out the front yard to enjoy a bit of sunshine but I took him out the back yard to see my nieces and he got a fright and bolted under the wood box. I found him about five minutes later hiding in some greenery very very frightened and cold, he has settled down now but I can tell he has lost some of the trust he has built up with me. He has been making his beard go black again and also half of his tail as well. Could this all be signs of what he went though. I love him with all my heart.
  16. Hi guys, first time beardie owner here as well. My baby is about 14-1/2 weeks old and I have had him since he was about 5-1/2 weeks. He has a really good appetite and i try and try with his veges and salad but he is just not interested. Only the occassional bit that gets caught up with a wax worm will go down the hatch and even then he tries to shake it off. He should be eating his salad by now too. I move it around and all kinds of things, but still no luck. Its god to hear he isnt the only one though. Just not sure what to try next though.
  17. Yeah I agree totally with you David R .... Im in Mt Wellington too . Varanophile, did you get the message I sent you the other night. Totally agree about the compact light thing too. I feel this one is really useless, but because of the type terrerium he has I have to upgrade to get the proper tube type. Do you sell anythin else besides these UVB tubes.
  18. He is not twitchy or nervous around me. He gets alot of hand contact with me. He even let my nieces pat him today, even though i could tell he wasnt so sure of him, but I held him the whole time. His tail is perfectly straight. I hold him by the fish tank and he loves watching them dart around.
  19. Okay I think the UVB is the problem, it came with the set up (you know how it goes, buy our set up complete and you get a discount) . I did things a bit wrong, most people decide to buy a dragon organise the set up bugs etc and look for a dragon. I walked into the shop, fell head over heals in love, and the next week went back and brought him. There is someone on trade me that I can get a bigger set up from and it comes with the equipment. Would it be okay if I send you the auction number and you guys give me your opinion.
  20. For about the last two weeks i have just started taking him outside into the sun but only for about 5 min maybe 10 min at the longest every second or third day. He just sits in his little box on a fluffy jacket and i sit with him, but he really enjoys it. Our trust for each other has really grown since I got him. They are amazing creatures. Does the toe curl sound normal, or does it sound a bit of a deformity. It is the large toe on both back feet.
  21. I give him little crickets and locusts and house flies and i have just got some blow flies for the first time but they havent hatched out yet. He gets a few mealy worms, but after he has eaten his supplyof live food he usually ends up on wax moth larvae for about 4-5 days until his new supply of food comes in. I dust his food with flukers calcium powder. I give him a salad every day but he hardly touches it, just the occasional bit of green that accidently gets caught up with a wax moth larvae. I try and make the greens move around to attract him but he can be quite stubbord when he wants to be. Because of his type of terrerium, his UBV is only one of those compact lamp ones that are on side only of the terrerium and hang down. I would do anything for him I love him so much, so please let me know if you think something should be changed. How do I check his calcium level to make sure it is ok. Thanks.
