  1. Just an update, Axe ate 5-6 pieces of ox heart tonight so thats a very good sign.
  2. I tested his PH tonight, plus ammonia and nitrate and all tests were perfect, I thought that may have been the problem. Since my first post he seems a bit better and is holding his head up higher than he was before. Hearing your replies have been very encouraging. Thank you,
  3. eating and has been quite larthargic these past three days. He had a scratch on his tail end a few days ago and that was when he first started looking unwell. That has since healed up, but he still looks very unwell and it's very unusual for him not to eat. Does anyone have any suggestions. Has anyone experienced this with an axolotl before. Thanks.
  4. his left rear leg, and now he wont eat and doesn't look very happy at all. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do. Thanks. :-?
  5. Thanks Matt, that's what I thought, went to a pet shop today and they said they give their one orange and to try it. Not good. Thanks heaps. They also gave theirs cherry tomatoes. That would be a no no too wouldnt it.
  6. Dragon, or would they be too acidy for them. Thanx
  7. The ones i was eyeing up were single hollow rocks and if i remember correctly was around the $80-85 dollar mark. but the bigger the rocks the BIGGER the price. The rocks were made from cement-bound matrix, reinforced with synthetic fibres. They are coloured on the surface using acrylic colourings, and/or with oxides through the matrix. Should this be safe for a lizards home?
  8. We know don't we Mystic. Calypso sends big huggies to you both.
  9. If you get a bearded dragon - you will NEVER regret it. They are AWESOME.
  10. Does anyone have a preference for either of the above. Thanks.
  11. Hey Matt, my thermostat was connected to the day and night heat but i have had these both turned off now for about a week when the temp started rising so now there is no thermostat working in his enclosure. Terrarium is glass so cant get any vents in the side which is what i think it really needs. I am making sure he keeps his water intake up by giving him drops of water throughout the day but will keep an eye on his eye to make sure it looks ok and not sunken in. Hey Mystic shifting the lights on top of the lid would be a good idea except it is a wooden lid. :-? What does Malins dimmer do, does it work like a thermostat.
  12. Hi Alanmin, is it a single batten with one tube that you have. Thanks,
  13. Hi guys, Calypso my BD's temperature is getting really high. I have all heating off now except his UVB and basking lights. The room he is in gets very warm over the summer because of the way the sun hits it in the afternoon. He is not right by a window but because the room is very small, he isn't far away. I have drapes across one side but that doesnt help with the heat in the slightest. There is a large fish tank beside him, so this also adds to the heat. There is no way I can put hiim in another room either. I had two thoughts, getting a ceiling fan put in or getting something put on the windows to give them a tint to help stop the heat. I would appreciate your thoughts on either of these ideas, or if anyone elso has any ideas they can offer. These last few days his cool side has crept up to about 35oC because of this outside heat. Thanks.
  14. Bearded Dragons glass terrarium five foot long by 2 foot high by 2 foot wide. Thanks guys,
  15. Hi Angie, just wanted to say Lynfield Vets is the best place in Auckland for reptiles. Thats where I take Calypso, and he has been through the mill too. Hope everything goes okay as I know how worrying it is for you. I'm in Auckland. Where abouts in Auckland are you?
  16. Hi Elaine, How is Doza doing? Calypso hasnt set foot out of his cardboard home these last couple days.
  17. Hi Elaine, Calypso is thirteen months now and he spends lots of time curled up sleeping in his cardboard home, or if not there, sleeping under something else. It's always an effort to get food into him too. Is Doza eating his greens yet?
  18. We wondered if Calypso had snuck a fag and had a smoke behind our backs. But seriously though. I have been quite worried, I start thinking things like stomach cancer, which doesn't help him or me. But ever since he had his eye removed he just looks so vulnerable. (And a tad clumsey) I do appreciate your thoughts and opinions. Thank you guys for being there.
  19. Oh oh I saw Malins pics. He is one handsome young lizard. He's also Calypso's best friend.
  20. Something I have often wondered. I would appreciate your guys advice. My partner is a very heavy smoker. He doesn't live in the same house as Calypso but visits often. He has never smoked in our house but he does get very close to Calypso sometimes. Do you think that could have something to do with it?
  21. No, there is no mucus or discharge. When he went for his vet check for his eye about 3 weeks ago i mentioned it to the vet but at that stage i described it as a hiccup, but after watching him this time it's definitely a cough. Anyway the vet managed to look in his mouth that time and saw nothing. But this time the cough lasted alot longer.
  22. But still that was a very smart thing to do - i tend to run around like a headless chicken when something goes wrong with him.
  23. Calypso wondered if he could come stay with Malin for a few days. He says mummy is driving him up the wall, literally.
  24. He doesn't have laboured breathing or anything but i do tend to pull him out of him warm enclosure a bit ... To me when i pull him out its quite warm, but maybe to someone living in a heated environment, he might feel differently.... This is the third time I have witnessed him doing it, the time before was about 5-6 weeks back, but this time it lasted on and off for about 10 miunutes .... I emailed his vet for advice but he is away for two weeks. He doesn't have any bark in his home and only a very small area of sand - Hey Mystic and Malin Calypso sends big hugs Gosh Livingart did you really ...... wow
  25. Has anyone ever experienced their Bearded Dragon coughing, and does anyone know what could cause this? Thanks guys.
