clown loaches got rid of my snail infestation. when i cleaned my canister i found more snails which i tipped back into the tank. 30 mins & they were gone never to see them again. if you have ever heard a "crack" sound, like a small stone hitting the glass, thats the clown loaches crushing something in their mouth.

they have a sucker mouth that scrubs surfaces like glass, rocks 7 will even eat the wood parts you add. They do eat excess food from the bottom but i found clown loaches or corydoras best for that. Its quite funny to watch a catfish pulling himself up the glass with his mouth leaving a polished track where he has been.

i did it successfully for over a year, even when my angels were big i had no problems. anyway, neons are cheap enough to replace if you "loose" a few.

he doesn't look to bad to me, what you feed em? i had metriclima & labio get "dirty" when i started to feed them foods with spirulina in it. when i cut that food from their diet they got "cleaner" over the course of a few weeks.

it is good for absorbing things from the water, meds etc that you want to remove. however, eventually it "gets full" & releases most of whatever it has absorbed over a long period of time quickly which could cause a swing in water parameters. like anything, it has its uses

take the pic on an angle, slightly above or below which will change the reflection on the glass & i never use the flash.

i dont think it matters where you go up here, its all excellent. there are approx 50 beaches within an hour of whangarei (an hours drive to paihia) & probably another 50 in the far north (taipa, karikari, monganui etc). i wouldn't plan on travelling much in the 8 days as you'll spend more time travelling than enjoying where you are. i spent 2 1/2 weeks at Otamure bay DOC camp just over the hill from whananaki north & can highly recommend the camp even though it doesn't have power. As for fish shops, Northland pet & aquarium on cameron st next to the police station is the best up here.

my 200L tank only added about $10 per month in power. thats nothing compared to the cost of the stock, food, water treatments etc.

I have introduced a new fish to my tank this week & he has immediately taking over the joint. See my sig below for stocking. Previously the main man in the tank was one of my four fryeri. he has not been overly aggresive, the other males have always been fully coloured the same as him & he didn't really chase anyone when he wasn't spawing. The new boss is my new Auloncara Baenschi male. within the first hour he had chased all the fryeri to the corners where they have basically stayed for a week, sitting not to far below the surface staring at the room outside the tank. i would never have thought this would have been the case.

its quite brittle so most of the chips would fly away when broken that fine. i would just stick with aragonite (crushed marble)

looking good! Anyone know how the demansoni will get along with the more peaceful fish as they get bigger?

i certainly did that, there is no wearing or any reason that i can see that it would now leak after a years use. i'll see if i can get a replacement one tomorrow.
