Hi firenzenz The pic you have posted is virtually indentical to my fish. the pic I posted isn't the best. The reason i am asking, i purchased the fish before a name was available based on the pics of baenschi on the cichlid forum. To me (with very limited experience of peacocks) it is a baenschi. the previous owner has said it may (i have not personally spoken to him) be a jocobfryberg (i will try to confirm this with him)but i cannot find a pic listed as freiberg that matches. Again the pic i posted is poor quality but looking at the fish in the tank compared to pics on forums it is so close to baenschi i cannot spot any difference. I guess only time will tell in the fact of when it fully colours then all will be revealed but it is prodominently yellow coming through. I ideally want a baenschi male, i am going to accept that the females are baenschi as thats what they were labelled as. If the male turns out not to be baenschi well i will keep looking & may stumble accross some females that match him.

i bought a pair of al baenschi that were supposed to be a male & female. they have both remained dark with no colour. i bought this male thinking it was a baenschi cause it looks like the pic (in the tank it is quite yellow & starting to show a blue jaw, pic not the best above) on the cichlid forum. the store got this one & others from a private supplier but forgot the list of what they were so they cant tell me at this stage. maybe it was a stupid move on my part but gotta learn somehow i guess, i wanted to get it because i needed it (its about 3" so bigger than others available) & didn't want anyone else to nab it.

    Loaches

i had clowns & skunks together & they were often the most interesting group in the tank.

    Fryeri mating

yeah, my yellows had fry that i stripped last week & she had 12 on first spawn. she would be about 2 1/2 inches long so that was alot of fish for her small mouth. & i did see my convict pick up 4 fryeri eggs too.

    Fryeri mating

been watching her a bit today. shes not feeding & hasn't got much of a "chin". I did get a glimpse of an egg or two in her mouth but will see how many fry we end up with.

    Fryeri mating

I just witnessed 2 of my fryeri mating. quite amazing to watch, this is the first time i've seen africans spawn. the female has been trying to start all afternoon but nothing happened. then my smart wife suggested i turn the light off & within 2 minutes it started. i have started turning the light on for only 4 hours per day for the last 4 weeks, since i started this my yellows have had fry, my red zeb is currently holding & now my fryeri are mating. nothing else to do but mate when light is limited it seems

    Breeding

i guess its all on her terms tho, "hey i've got these eggs & you better be there at 8 or you'll miss out!"
  11. Anyone out there got adult Frontosas? Have you mysteriously lost some larger fish? Here's a thread on the cichlid forum of a 11" front having half of a 5" e yellow http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/view ... p?t=152819

    Breeding

I have a Aulonocara Baeschi male & two females. I am curious to know if the male will breed with both the females or with one only. Anyone had two females breed with one male?
  13. How long were they holding before you stripped them?
  14. hasn't snookie got his brackish puffers up for sale?
  15. in a year, i have never heard the balls going nuts i wonder why that is the case
  16. i keep the balls in the bottom & my CF1200 & CF1000 are both almost silent. I cannot hear them until you open the cabinet & listen carefully.

    Advice

go with the angels, just one pair. they will get aggresive but don't worry, they wont do much damage.
  18. i store my filter wool bail in the filter cabinet & it makes a huge difference in the sound levels.
  19. think in this case he could tell which was which because he saw the fish laying the eggs
  20. i think its very cool for them to hatch etc in their own tank. well done (not that you had alot to do with it )
  21. i stripped my yellow yesterday. i cannot be totally sure but it was about day 12-15 of the cycle. I wanted to get them out earlier so she didnt loose too much condition as she is only 2 1/2 inches long. i removed the female from her tank & put her in a filled ice cream container. then hold the fish in one hand & open her mouth with a tooth pick or similar. they will swim out once her mouth is open. at the end give her a few gentle squeezes of the gills to push some water through & flush out any remaining fry. my little yellow had 12 fry about 8-10mm long, it really surprised me how they all had room in there.
  22. the africans will dig it up, move it around & generally stirr things up so you will be getting sand in your filter. i have found after a few months the aragonite will darken slightly & loose its bright appearance.

    Advice

the angels will be agresive if you have a breeding pair. i had four angels from when they were very small, ended up getting two breeding pairs (what are the odds of that happening?) & they paired off & faught terribly so i sold one pair. the remaining pair would chase everyone else when spawing but never actually did any damage to the other fish.
