  1. as far as i am aware there are two options, yellow or white. some colour up better than others which is most likely due to breeding, what they eat & the conditions they are in etc. here's some white ones
  2. its not intended as a "who's got the best" rather an appreciation of what i think is a fantastic species of fish to have. looking good there livingart!
  3. oh yeah, the guy on TM joshua is on the shore in auckland & imports a container full at a time. it will be worth getting one, little things like the hood being made of aluminium make it that much better in the way of use & lasting ability.
  4. i have two factory made setups, one aqua one & a sunsun. i will never buy a aqua one & if i was getting another tank i wouldn't hesitate to get another sunsun. the quality of the models made in the last few years is great, alot better than the aquaone gear & the stand, because of the finish on it doesn't get damaged by water as readily as others. my sunsun is about 3 years old & still looks like new. Always keep $ in the budget for a canister filter as this will make them easy care & reliable to. oh & they are alot cheaper than other brands to
  5. yeah about two years ago, weren't they yours or your brothers? (or maybe i have misunderstood where they came from)
  6. holden have released a recall on all statesman models from 1970 onwards. there has been a complaint regarding the name of that model so all are to be rebadged as Statesperson!
  7. i would suggest you feed every day, i feed every day & if you are scared of overfeeding just make sure you feed as much as they will eat in about 10 mins. you will only have a problem if food is left over after aday or so as it will then begin to break down.
  8. for me this falls into the "this is how our culture sees it" category as we do not see it as offensive at all. I personally don't think it should be changed but can also see how it is offensive to them. there are many cultural differences out there & it should recognised as that. its like us going to areas that have toilets to squat over, do they change their toilets for us cause we prefer to sit down or would islamic beliefs be thrown out to suit a tourist? No!
  9. Who has heard about this in the news & what do you think about it? Should it be changed or stopped or remain unchanged? http://www.nzherald.co.nz/lifestyle/new ... d=10567712
  10. is this all you feed? once every 3-4 days? I feed every day but sometimes miss a day.
  11. if you can separate him & throw food at him. it worked for me.
  12. here's a link to more pics of this, it's amazing & a pic with mr stuart grant infront of it! http://www.backtonature.se/interzoo2006.html
  13. Anyone seen this before? these pics were posted on another forum & i was surprised to see this cichlid forum
  14. one of my larger clowns (10 cm) got this. it took a while to sort, i tried getting meds for him that were metridonzole (something like that) which was recommended but the vets wouldn't give it to me. so i put him in a tank of his own & fattened him up with heaps of food until he was fat again which took about 4 weeks. I put him back in the main tank & he got skinny again over two weeks so i repeated the four week fattening process & returned him to the main tank & he has not got skinny again. that was about 6 months ago. i don't know how it fixed the sickness but it did

was that on TM? is this brand of computer better for other things than what it was made for?
  17. are danios are fragile to higher temps normally? my african display often gets over 30 in winter when the fire is going & i have never lost any fish with a higher temp.
  18. they don't look like giraffes to me, aren't they some sort of peacock?
  19. thats like saying beer doesn't taste better after a real hard days work
  20. the contents of the tanks will effect the ph, wood will soften it & slate/limestone etc will increase it.
  21. a local builder up here caught the biggest fish ever caught in NZ on thursday, its a 483.4kg blue marlin. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/artic ... d=10567248
  22. i don't worry about ph as it will only effect the fish if it changes rapidly. I am on tank water so can't have much choice on the ph & i keep africans. my ph is about 7 which is not what africans are "supposed" to be in but i have seen no change in their colour, behaviour, breeding patterns or anything at all over the three months they have been in lesser ph levels. they seem to be no different at all from when my ph was 8. they simply adjust & get on with life it seems.
  23. i don't believe that emptying a tank is bad at all, when i have moved (three times in 4 years) i simply emptied the tanks & left the canister full. Setup the tank where i wanted it & filled it with fresh water adding warm so the temp wasn't too low. I never lost any fish & they didn't even seem stressed at all. if anything they reacted playfully as they do with water changes.
  24. thanks for that but i am looking for selling info, whether there are alot of people who aren't members of this site taht buy africans. I promote this site when ever i sell on TM to try to increase the users to keep it going.
