  1. ok so more lights. I thought that was a problem. Could i put higher wattage bulbs in the existing lights or do they need different fittings? does anyone know of anywhere where i can get lights for cheap? I know you can get tubes from mastertrade, do they do the whole fittings too?

    New tank

lol i remember the first time i tried to get my canister working. i filled the inlet hose with a h2go bottle! i didnt think of sucking on it at the time. And remember for the future that if you turn the inlet tap off first the water stays in there and you dont have to do it again
  3. I have 2 4ft tanks and both are planted. However the plants are not how i would like them to be. I have also recently got annoyed and pulled out all the scrapy looking plants so they are pretty bare. Both are around 200L and both have a double lighthood with 2X30W of lights. I have Daltons aquatic mix under gravel in one and under propagating sand in the other. On is set up as an asian tank and the other an amazon with lots of swords (which are starting to look really sad). I would love to go all out and get a full Co2 system and MHs but in reality im a student and im poor. So what can i do that wont cost heaps but will help my plants.
  4. Ive also found that the size of the tank influences size.
  5. I get around the wanting multiple fighters by getting females, who I think are still really pretty! Or you could be like Billaney who manages to keep males together, although i dont recommend trying
  6. I like the background thingee! U can also get terracotta piping
  7. lol i borrowed it from the Petone forshore. I liked it coz it looks all rooty. I now have: 4 glass catfish 6 clown loaches 6 dwarf neon rainbows 5 fighters (plus babies) And a kulhi loach that is in there somewhere. Ill put some more pictures once i get some more plants and when the plants grow a bit.
  8. Yeah but they wont ship and hes a bit big. I have someone trying to get some in for me. Cool I will. Thank you guys!
  9. and it makes it easier cos there are always so many fish and so little tank space!
  10. Barclaya longifolia Cyperus helferi Utricularia vulgaris or graminifolia Feel free to add to the list if you are trying to track something down
  11. hey i just wanna say that dont be afraid to try things. I have a similar tank that only has the light on sometimes but otherwise gets the light from the window and it grows polysperma and hair grass with no problems. I had a problem with the flow to but by experimenting with extra filter material i have been able to make it not quite as strong.
  12. hey ive also noticed that algae fix kills duckweed and indian fern, a good thing in my case.
  13. so here are some photos. Im dissapointed that i cant do bamboo but i found the coolest poiece of driftwood
  14. Ok so bamboo was a bad idea After about a week in the tank they have started to smell like a rotting body. So i pulled them out and buried them. Does anyone know of how i can have the bamboo look with out real bamboo? Also has anyone had the same problem with the tunnels you get?
  15. I got some of the freshwater ones off trade me. Them seem to be coping
  16. I love my GBAs to bits! I have 12 of them in one tank and they dont touch my plants at all. GBAs arent asian tho , are they?

  18. oh well i think ill just have to experiment, I couldnt find any sand at bunnings today so i guess ill have to try a garden store tomorrow
  19. wouldnt barbsnip the bettas? Yeah that stuff is the lucky bamboo. So the lucky bamboo would rot? Im going to use the dead poles but i wanted live stuff as well. Do you have any problems withthe dead stuff?
