  1. Do those feeding blocks work? Thats what I normally do and I always come back to live fish. Might be better if someone else recommends them first before you take my advice
  2. One of the questions asked why it was pulled off. The answer was how trademe was concerned by the endangered status of the frog.
  3. I hope the winner intends on breeding from it. I have hopefully organised to get a couple of young true albino ones so will attempt breeding in a couple of years, owner is a bit greedy at the moment so i'll wait a while and see if they have knocked off the price a little bit
  4. Trademe just withdrew the auction, wonder why?? Anyway butterfly, crossing depends on genetics this is a split (Rr) so if you breed with a completely dominant frog (RR) you will get a mixture of offspring being dominant (RR) and some dominant splits (Rr).
  5. Yeah, might give it a go... Problem is the weather has cold snaps for a few days and then returns to normal
  6. Just wondering how long the goldfish breeding season goes until so I know whether or not to attempt a spawning soon. From what month to what month does it star and finish? Thanks
  7. Gee... Thanks for uploading those photos, I'm kicking myself even more now    Nah, would be very keen if anyone gets hold of some at any stage
  8. I know this is an old post but does anyone know the person who purchased them and how the frogs are going?? I am still kicking myself for not bidding higher than I did, only saw them a couple of minutes before they were closing. If not, anyone else have any available?
  9. Sorry can't help you but watch out for the so called 'guppies'. They are quite likely to be gambusia and highly illegal to keep etc, and you can get HUGE fines if caught.
  10. Got some sunset WCMM in my pond, big mistake  I doubt I'll ever see them again... I can only hope they are Ok and possibly breeding for me

    Hercules on TM?

I am tempted to get him... First I need to ask my grandparents permission to use the dam, then I need to catch the thing I wonder if I can get away with it...

    Hercules on TM?

ITS HUGE We have a large round dam at our farm... Not quite as big as this pond its in now, but would be half the size almost. I wonder if I block of the stream part if we could put him in there?? The waters a bit dirty and has eels in it but that might not matter... Now in getting ideas
  13. Basically I think its because to be albino they need complete recessive genes... They never turn up in the wild because we can't control who breeds with who and by far the majority carry the dominant trait, making the recessive gene lost as a split. Those splits breed with another dominant frog and the recessive genes are lost further etc. I just saw these before they closed so hadn't prepared for them... I'm hoping that the winner only take a couple and we are offered the rest
  14. As you might have noticed I competed in the bidding (Up to just over $100)  Would have went higher but that nzdragons was not going to stop Wanted to try get the five to attempt breeding. They look awesome!!!
  15. Just saw your in Levin :-? Might be better to find some down your way
  16. I bought them from Kumeu, a lady on trademe buys food in bulk and sells of the drums for about $23 each. If I find a link i'll post one here. I'm sure there are a few around other places aswell.
  17. I'd go with a liner. We had the same problem and no matter how it was cleaned it still had a smell. In the end we decided to go to food grade drums...
  18. Unfortunately the male oranda didn't make it Must have been too late... Thanks for all the advice though
  19. OK... Please excuse my question about the pea, Of course you feed it to him  Just red the thread and now think I am a idiot for asking that. If it is the temperature change fishboi, what is the best way to help the fish recover? Even though I might be too late I had picked up something was wrong earlier which is why I moved him and increased the water changes, with rock salt... So maybe he can still recover?
  20. About the dropsy caused by temperature change, we have suddenly had a huge increase in temperatures here in auckland in the last couple of weeks. Could that change from "Winter" to "Summer" all-of-a-sudden have caused it??
  21. So what do I do with the pea?? Do I try to feed it to him or just drop it in? About the food, I have fed him with quality goldfish sinking pellets since I got him, but I think 'iloveoranda' had his own recipe that I haven't yet got around to researching and making... Might be my job this weekend if you think thats the problem.
  22. OK... An update, this oranda is still alive Does appear to be in any pain, still eating food before it sinks and the scales have appeared to have returned to normal :-? ... But its still on it side and can't swim What do you think I should do?? Would 'killing' it be a more humain thing to do?? I don't know whats wrong... I'm wondering if it is a swimming disorder... Thing that puzzles me is that its only recently happened and its already 12months old... they do begin to 'round up' at this age though... Possibly making it unbalanced. I'm confused :-?
  23. I think you are right Afrikan and fishboi... The wound might be unrelated. Would this have been my fault or a genetical problem?
