  1. True that. I have sent the council an email earlier today. Will let you know what they say.
  2. mainly just speculation and the actions of sellers on trademe. has been a bit of discussion on there lately. I probably should just ask the council. :dunno:
  3. not sure that restriction exists and or is valid anymore.
  4. thought that was last decade? pretty sure bts legit everywhere now. be surprised if they survived the wild. taking into account human as key predators lol. oh and if they made it to our prestine bush theyd probably eat 1080 and be done with it anyway.
  5. cool animals. surprised shingle backs not on that list also?
  6. I dunno tbh I am new to these. They seem to put on the beef very easily.
  7. if we look at the bigger picture. i suspect if easy to produce there'd be more about by now. if is easy to produce then u only need 20 young at 20 each. if hard to produce -- we are lucky to even see them on the market.
  8. yeah slightly ... almost looks about to lay an egg?
  9. random. good to see. thanks for sharing that.
  10. yuck - I jest want to see some white albino ...
  11. looks solid .. even if less on the middle it looks like it would still well out weigh my one that I thought was a good size (pic above) p.s edit your post - go to facebook click the code with img in front of it - to the right of your pics. put that as the link (ctr v) - click preview -- they should come up - then post..
  12. 68.5 and I do think he is a bit plump. only a bit though growth and weight seems to have curtailed over the past couple of months. other female laid 12 eggs and is back down to 30g again .. possibly a couple more eggs to come too.
  13. The big question is .. how's the big fella performing on the breeding front ... some one else had one 100g+ on this forum.... my young male is 60ish? must check again.
  14. there's always going to be bollocks where ball bags are involved :rolfl: straight out assuming Montyfish's gecko is fat is a bit un-welcoming. Conversation should be encouraged here. Atleast your honest though, ill give you that. and if geckos havnt been muggled with then full credit to you. the animals about now look amazing considering what I thought the originals looked like.
  15. I think if people started feeding their reptiles properly and not treating them like starvin marvin theyd grow to a better size. My one year old frogs are bigger than the 6+ years old. And gecko well they be grown hard on just 2/3 feeds a week. and lets face it. if some of the past leopard geckos haven't been smuggled in id be very surprised. lps in nz could carry any and every trait there is out there. dream a little.
  16. Get constant problems / bickering. I try keep pairs or trios but hardly ever works. Even 3 young with parents was going ok for a couple of months. However slight bite marks on young seen already ... and one born with cut on neck (had healed but no scales there) had that re-opened already the other week. Consequently separated young out and wounded on its own. Other group that looks like a male and two female ... the female went nato a couple of months back (like she spends all day chasing and biting the others). Thought she was going to drop young, but still hasn't.
  17. everything, probably not women after the last one though .. who knows .. ul have to wait and see. :sml2:
  18. I'd like to shift my focus more towards natives in the future. Exotics been good for learning some basics. For know I just feel humbled to be feeding some of the nations rarest natives, through clients.
  19. i saw that too. weren't they also breeding for release. remember seeing some being prepared for release...
  20. I find with my skinks and solo bearded dragon, and dragons had in past, if put too many crickets in enclosure they just don't eat them... hard to over feed on them, they're good exercise for fat skinks. .. plagues of locusts in aussie and feast or famine not unfamiliar to reptiles.
  21. Some people feed 50 crickets per day overseas. Right or wrong. Is however a huge difference in size and sustenance with feeders. 5mm crickets almost nothing to them and the lizards will eat them all day, pinheads even worse. 10mm on the other hand - 10 insects should fill them. Was intrigued by the lower temp. Such neat animals, be nice to see more around. The coastals are my favourite. Not sure why, maybe the natural colour. I found even ones I kept at moderate temp still grew relatively fast.
  22. Interesting, sort of makes sense. I have seen a few slow grown before and thought it was more to keep them small for saleability as everyone loves them when small and cute. Also rumoured to be better for fertility and breeding but doesn't seem to be working out in NZ does it ... Overseas growth charts suggest we lacking big time but then they actually have the people for an industry and consequently crickets cheap as chips to feed said industry.
  23. True that. especially if not on a thermostat. would expect it to be eating bugs like a mad man lmao. I used just 40watt spotlights.
  24. what's the theory behind the low temps? more fertile and longevity ..
