  1. turns out she is now one of the better breeders of the 8/9 females i have. these are from her - just hatched this morning.
  2. if it is the guy i think it is yes he was interested. already breeds the golden bells among others commercially so would presume it would only be a one off. unless infertile. that is for real.
  3. found it depressing getting all those wonky tadpoles & frogs. can produce plenty of normal green ones. just costs too much to justify it. i like to compare these to beardies. imo the frogs have more potential by far. and given the rarity coupled with the challenge of producing them i think 500-1000 each, especially for adults, is still giving them away. don't really care about the money side of it. i like to breed everything (successfully) once. these still have me beat. one of the worst things for any animal lover is to produce deformed animals. others can do et, for now.
  4. when i had a dozen or so, frogs not tadpoles, the other year it was hard to sell them at $100 each. only two went. they would of eaten more than $100 worth of crickets. maybe worth doing so for potential export but the market here doesn't seem to appreciate them. just saying.
  5. I could sell tadpoles all day long, but would feel bad if they all end up deformed like they do for me. They told me education is important :sml1: na jj, I am starting to appreciate learning more and more.
  6. I would like to move on the remainder of my colony but they have cost me thousands in time, food, and power etc etc. And I don't like to give up but hmmm. Only ever got them for the sake of it 6 years ago. Really surprised no one has produced a decent number yet. Keep an eye on trademe. Is a couple of people trying to breed them. May still let mine spawn this season and give it another shot but not planning on it.
  7. Fastways has their general rates on their website. I'd have to check my contract before disclosing rates. but in general the more you send the more you can negotiate a better rate with most companies.
  8. they change to environment and or if sick, possibly hot or cold too etc. seen almost black, to grey, to brown, to green. yellow the only colour that doesn't change, much?
  9. A sick bell frog. litoria aurea is my guess.
  10. Edit for above - Courier Post use to be amazing. Something seems to have changed at management level or above in the last year or so. Very disappointing. On a positive note though looks like we can reduce costs on larger items and improve the way we send the smaller items with other companies so not all bad.

    Help

Algae need more than just light to survive so by turning off the light you are not addressing the cause/s. When you turn the light back on you will still have the same problem. I have a 5000l swimming pool in direct sunlight and if I don't feed it the algae (that I want) reduces. Forget all those products. The water has little good bacteria init. A good filter is key to keeping things stable.

i posted the link to cycling a tank/pond earlier. lost some fine gluten free organic toast in the process. 3 attempts later i was sorted. keep it real. sunshine aint your problem.

It just makes life easier for you and the fish. Fish less likely to get sick. And shouldn't have algae issues etc etc. Life is a balancing act at the end of the day. Understanding the biological process sounds complicated but it is really straight forward.

They can apparently live to 30 years old. Cycling a fish tank or at least understanding the basics of it is paramount if you want your fish to live a long and content life. If you want to feed them heaps (not recommended) you need lots of fresh oxygenated water and very good filtration. From the turtle rescue thread: Some would say not understanding cycling a tank is causing your fish "a slow and painful death" Just trying to help. My fish keeping was a mess as a kid, as I did not know anything about cycling. The petshop said I could keep tropicals too, just put a desk lamp on the tank to heat it they said. Why the guy didn't just sell me a heater I do not know to this day.

Yeah but fish don't need much food to thrive. Just because they eat it doesn't mean it is good for them. Really need a canister filter for goldfish, of diy something even bigger. Understanding the basics of cycling a tank really is key to keeping fish happy. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?p=1868

Over feeding can lead to excess nutrients that feeds algae. Is a real art to getting water to stay green :bggrn: And algae products could harm the helpful bacteria in your filter leaving more nutrients = more for algae. Green water is not a bad thing, no good if you want to see your fish though. And go easy on cleaning the filter .. should only do so when flow is restricted and don't clean thoroughly as you will clean away the beneficial bacteria that helps keep things in balance. Look into how to cycle a tank.
  17. If only every one went above and beyond. I'd like to see a small portable pond type setup on the market too. Like a rabbit hutch only bigger.
  18. Think it was the good man at Hot House turtles who took them in Caryl. Think I'll just put the eggs in the freezer this year. Seems there are not many people capable of looking after them properly in NZ.
  19. True, thanks for that, I'm looking to change from Courier Post. They are amazing but so are their prices.
  20. Do post haste do over night to the south? imo they are all capable. :bggrn:
