  1. my thoughts exactly. must be a way to do it though.
  2. I've had that before. Think with those cheaper multi boards where plugs barely fit snug in socket. Some multiboards work where others like to pop like popcorn :spop:
  3. Very cool. Seen that a few weeks back, wasn't sure if it was the same species or not.
  4. Oh really, that is no good at all, wonder if the same deal with the beardies. I'd be slightly annoyed if I didn't already have a male. Sort of wanted to try other combinations too but oh well. Should be more eggs than expected for me this year. Just put the 'macksnow' and my male together and sure enough.
  5. Drinking too much water poses a risk too. If they ban them they can have the 10 I purchased recently. I don't like the idea of getting rich off the black market.
  6. 95% sure both are females. Here I was thinking Alan had a new way of determining the sex of young geckos. Or I watched two males go at it < very unlikely but anything is possible, so I tell myself. Been waiting for obvious sexual dimorphism from both. Still waiting, oh I did suspect this one to be forming eggs inside her belly. Yesterday put with my confirmed male and they mated straight away. So fairly certain 'he' is a she.
  7. Just watched this 'male' I got from Alan be mated by another MALE :dnc1: :sml1: Macksnow 'male' looks female too. I've seen it all now.
  8. https://www.facebook.com/Bluetongueliza ... =3&theater that guy is inspiring ... straw in the hides may be a good option to by the looks.
  9. Was just for them to hibernate. Not much walking and is covered in aspen that they dug into for the past few weeks. So not exactly in much contact with it as such. I would be weary using it permanently and or when they are awake as yes the ink seems to rub off. I know as use to use in packaging and hands got black fast. Absorbent .. yeah sort of. Either way the stinks are best kept outdoors in my opinion. :bggrn: Can use astro turf with paper underneath i guess. And cut two bits of turf. Take one outside and blast clean with a hose every week or so. Having two means you can leave one to dry etc.
  10. found that interesting the other week. 38-43ppm here since recent town upgrade. starting to wonder if to pure for frogs after losing half of my colony this winter. however even when it was silty tasting it was only about 60-70 i think.
  11. he said she said. i got it in writing. not what i was hoping for but hey. i dunno what is going on up there tbh. surely they have bigger things to worry about.
  12. Back in May I got the below response from Auckland Council. quote frm pg 3 .. viewtopic.php?f=40&t=66606&start=30
  13. Hi there Addie. I have seen some on pelletised substrates as of late .. don't like the idea of it myself.. Aspen or bark seems common and or just artificial turf. However with turf I do think it's best to also put aspen in the hide as they love to burrow into it.
  14. Sounds like mites or something? Have mealworms close? Have only seen tiny worms on bad eggs before. And think I had microworms sitting ontop of the incubator so suspect was just those ...
  15. and if they don't have the actual critter keeper brand there are knock offs and or similar other type plastic tanks in most shops. may cost more than $20 too. and probably want to upgrade to an exo terra type setup once half grown .. for young i use one similar to this only slightly bigger. http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/o ... 820075.htm
  16. easier with a $20 critter keeper from the shop .. too many plants and you wont see them making it hard to monitor if eating / growing etc. and if they escape you wont know. i've been trying to upload a pic to photobucket, for last couple of days, but keep getting upload fail.
  17. yeah nah yeah. depends how you install it at the end of the day.
  18. nope. cardboard and aquariums not a good mix. the newts can get out a hole the size of a pea when young. critter keeper type tanks vents are just small enough. Exo terra maybe ok but need to check around cord slots. Ok when have a bit of size on as have used them before. if there is a hole they will find it.
  19. Is a good photo. Maybe just take photos people post and enter them in the competition. Takes the big step of entering out of the too hard basket. As I don't always look in all forums, generally just click view new posts .. it would be neat to see the best pics from all over the forums in one place. Just an idea.
  20. True looked to good to be off the shelf. I just keep young in critter keeper type plastic tanks. https://www.google.com/search?q=critter ... 87&dpr=0.9
  21. What model tank is that .. even better where from? and is it sealed enough as is from shop .. Very tidy.
  22. grindals good for when tiny and i suppose earthworms could be ok for adult newts ..
  23. search function should be helpful to you basically need smallish secure tank with easy access in and out of water (ie driftwood). coldwater too - under 20C can feed fruit flies, or pinhead crickets, whiteworms, etc when young, otherwise easy care.. larger insects and frozen bloodworms once some size on.
