  1. nope, they taste like black liquorice, no good for frogs they like red. :iag: :lar:
  2. haha true that. I have three shelves of tubs below but this pair seem so happy in their 'free range' enclosure. he's pretty much a pimp in his penthouse lol. p.s do I need to worry about unshed skin on toes. my fault let the hide dry out last time she shed. hoping it comes right next shed ...
  3. was worried this female was too small to breed. 6 eggs later she still in condition :bggrn: i call the box on the right the couch as that is where the male likes to sleep :sml1:
  4. whip that ... just unwinding from another corker week here. lawns mowed, I smell like two stroke from the weed eater that has a leak in the fuel line. bliss.
  5. thought id sent to Naseby ... just checked though and no record hmm must of been something similar. don't eat all the tadpoles at once :sml1: should accept live fish if polite, but have heard of people having problems in various parts of the country. if an on-going thing sure they will, is at your own risk though. heck I use to take tadpoles into the post office and crickets when I first started - courier post pretty much is nz post just diff names / companies. i still remember the lady saying are you sure there is enough air holes in those courier bags? haha. just inform they're double bagged / well packaged and you are willing to take the risk if a loss. should be fine.
  6. Courier post overnight to you? they do pretty much anywhere in NZ (non rural). did you get some crickets recently? chirping crickets they good .. cant remember the last time I had an issue. phenomenal service from Courier Post. btw send to south island every Thursday (overnight for Friday delivery) and never had an issue in 5ish years. dam they good
  7. crickets not for me either really, they're incredible however farming them day in day out is not much fun, but when one has devoted a good part of 10years doing r&d on them it becomes hard to give up. the day you stop learning, lose the l plates, is the day the crickets stop chirping .. think that's how it goes? :sml1:
  8. stunning animals you have there. don't show Alan your feeding the snickers diet :sml2: welcome to the forum btw
  9. good on ya mate :sml1: (insert southern accent) I was born in motueka great fishrooms come from a few beers I tell ya. inspring and everyone has to start somewhere. :cr3:
  10. only arrived on Tuesday? last week. the bigger one is ovulating or starting to develop eggs by the looks of it. this one is actually perking up in the last couple of days.
  11. can be a fine line between in condition and skinny/fat what do people think about this one ...
  12. Good to see you stil alive batman
  13. cicada bandit at work, if you have seen this man report him immediately :rolfl:
  14. what sort? just seen 13 species in my book hope it is not the one that takes 17 years to come out of the ground 8) Alan will be saying the same next year, or in 17years, at the rate he's going  Surprisingly my blue tongues go nuts for moths.
  15. That is what I use to think, but have a feeling the bulbs have improved. I've had 10% coiled bulbs on frogs for some time now and if any animal was going to show signs of illness it'd be frogs. Going blind or even just patches of white on skin I believe is from too much uvb ... never seen either here. Raised tadpoles outside this year to see if deformities were due to rearing indoor ... got 50% deformed out there, pointing to genetics. colours on frogs incredible though. Our sun outside is very very intense, these bulbs don't seem to come close to nz sun. Frogs like that too. Been meaning to get a light/uv meter too .. must do that.
  16. what sort of tube did you get? i just ordered one of these to try http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/deta ... cm/m/1203/ and more of these http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/deta ... tt/m/1203/ ... really low power consumption ... good output?
  17. 160w is hard core really is a shame they can't be used on thermostat eh. maybe try white tile ? otherwise good luck with it. wish I could channel sun into indoor enclosures.
  18. pretty sure garden centres sell sinensis ... I know they sell a lot more than just japonica ... the tree and shrub nursery I use to work at would of had over a dozen varieties (all looked similar to me ha). pretty sure sinensis was one though as it rings a bell. looks like a standard garden variety http://www.trademe.co.nz/home-living/ou ... 962823.htm lol Ira
  19. pretty cool how it's just the standard midge larvae. bit like tea is from a camellia bush, what the. so common yet hardly anyone knows it.
  20. this guy has some crazy ones including solid blacks http://bluetonguelizard.com.au/hyper-melanstic/
  21. ain't that the truth. not sure who got the orange one up top .. . i'd like to see that now.
  22. male just shed ... that got me thinking ... he never had that black when he was young, he was orange/red.
  23. seems like the orange turns black with age :smln:
