  1. bummer. generally displays/worsens closer to morphing too. cullinary delight what combo produced the albinos?
  2. in regards to colour. i think mood, sunlight and possibly even diet has a part to play and in that order. Hardly ever look as good indoors as they do outdoors.. could try feed it some greenery http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1kDJkU99_Q&feature=plcp&context=C34cc991UDOEgsToPDskLZaemZfvpLb65bhqUoyGAw
  3. Great layout, i like the driftwood too.
  4. great pics and congrats on the spawn. :nfs:
  5. actually not always. i recently got quoted $10/month more for third party fire and theft as oppose to full cover (same company). probably some laim marketing ploy but anyway. two stone chips in windscreen already, probably cost more to fix them than the insurance premium for the year , so i not complaining. plus the peace of mind really lets me push it to the limit haha just joking
  6. failing that. wetpets in palmy had a young one, priced at 140, the other week. can apparently get more.
  7. do you use uvb bulbs in conjunction Alan, or just supplements? a good bulb should cancel out the need for powdered D3 supplement i would have thought? low rating bulb + supplements ok ... supplements without bulb at all ? in theory sounds ok but how much is too much / little and is it as good as from a light source.
  8. can overdose on D3. think you will find can cause organ failure / damage. probably more easy to od on the powder than the bulbs. the following website has a simple explanation and pretty much bang on imo. http://www.reptilecare.com/supplements.htm
  9. they're only 4 or 5 y/o. i probably shoudn't call them old. that's good eh, life expectancy must be 10-15? less if battery farmed like mine?
  10. interesting you say that. I have only seen them once in the last 20, or so, years. not looking all that hard but still.
  11. lower end should be as low as possible. ie no heating and well vented, if the lizard is too cold it can go down the other end and vice versa. in summer time i had to use air con when had a number of enclosures operating. like 30-40C all round the lizards can not escape the heat if need be. i just used, 40, 60, & 100watt spotlights from bunnings. ceramic is ok but not natural in the sense they don't put out light. also a bugger if they blow cos unless you check temps you may not notice for some days. when brumating they can get down to about 10C and seem no worse for wear, suspect mine got lower for short periods of time. generally room was down to about 10-15 at night and 20-25 during day. 15C seems to be the recommended temp for brumating, still seems pretty warm to me. regarding basking temps. if too hot lizard will sit off to one side when basking. too cold will sit right under heat source. ive only got two oldish beardies now. don't even check temp cos misplaced my temp gun lol. above method seems good enough for me.
  12. i was fascinated by those caterpillars as a kid. had a gum tree in the back yard. ah memories, just trying to remember if when i burnt the garage down whether or not the tree went with it :rotf:
  13. so you heated the cool end to 29C ? so what's the hot end? daylight hours probably just as much a stimulant as heat as far as waking them ... dont like the idea of actually warming a lizard that's brumating give it access to warmth yes. better to turn a basking light on down opposite end from where it brumating. mine use to come out within a couple of weeks of me turning lights back on. keep it simple skink
  14. may be of interest http://forum.reptiles.org.nz/showthread.php?tid=5141
  15. i have found a few big moths, put in container thinking they were dead. only to wake to a container full of eggs the next day. sometimes disturbing them wakes them too guess they nocturnal.
  16. if you put the airline inside a slightly larger pipe down to just above pump, seal it so no water in large pipe. may work? or would pressure come up pump...
  17. can always just hook an air pump up to it. that really boosts the bubbles i have one on a pond pump, the air thing came with a cheap little internal filter and had same problem when using that in deepish water, also as soon as it got slightly clogged it would stop working. with it on the pond pump it can go at least 30cm deep and still go hard, no air pump either.
  18. Had the pleasure of looking after a bearded dragon I sold as a hatchling/juvi about 3 years ago. Nice to see a reptile in good health. Was told she didn't like her vege much, but I think I diss proved that. Only good thing about giving her back is having one less animal to feed
