  1. have heard it is ok to feed them bees. i fed one to a frog a few weeks back, seemed ok. not sure how safe tbh.
  2. was something on tv the other week about a mice plague that ends up swimming across water (annually i think it was) and the fish were feasting on them.
  3. no point in getting in a rage over it. better to be friendly and hope the person is willing to listen. if not then nature generally takes its course in a small country like nz don't expect a reply to your Q? on that turtle auction, i left one on monday. 20 mins later seller just listed another one.
  4. Waking up is always a good way to start the day
  5. Hippy birthday :happy2: hope you are having a good one.
  6. spider catching moth http://www.youtube.com/user/nzexotics?feature=mhee#p/u/0/bf6aJKswGKo
  7. bigger enclosures are great, even just a pen for day time sun. dont use mesh, make walls solid, at least the first foot or two. then see how they run. for such a sluggish looking skink, the majority of the time, they can really move looks funny too with their stumpy little legs.
  8. May have to stay separated. If it is a female that is getting beaten up on then she is either pregnant already (so marswel separate her anyway) and very stressed or simply not ready.. or male . 3 years old is probably a better age to start attempting to breed them. Feed em up, supervise them when putting them near each other. 10 mins a week is probably more than enough for breeding to occur. They will do so when the time is right.
  9. yep, + perfect age for hormones to kick in so could just be bad luck. skinks stink :sml2: not too bad though, may depend a little on what you feed. always handy to have another bit of turf cut out ready to put in when one gets soiled. hose with jet setting. hang to dry. ready for another day. oh heck. tails snap easy
  10. not having much luck are you. my first impression was two males so have to agree with reptilenut. could be wrong but probably best to separate and keep on astro turf so you can look out for man plugs.
  11. just watched it again. set up does look a bit small eh? no where for one to escape the other. need bigger setup and adding some substrate that they can dig into may help. looks more like fighting than it does mating, isn't this what happened earlier this year with the male you got from me?
  12. Could ask the breeder how they have been kept, temps and if together, if so any trouble? Suspect they may have been kept in cooler temps. Now you have them one appears to have turned in to a horny little savage. How old, size, and how long have you had them? Is it just one skink doing the chasing or both? / scars on both heads? Yeah best to separate them if that is going on regularly as will only end up in damage. Mating can get rough but looks like the other one is stressed and just wants to gap it.
  13. fair enough didn't mean to lecture u in any way. just saying it how i see it. if i PM u it may never get read :sml2: discussion is good, you love it, :digH: and a prod here it's good for the forum :rotf:
  14. My theory with live food: Comes from sustainable source. Can justify the use, ie benefit should ultimately outweigh the potential negative effects of not doing so. Is humanely cared for, and disposed of when the time comes. I can see the frogs jumping around with legs missing, but that aside. All good. Problem. why can't you explain? if you can not explain, may be you can not justify, and deep down you know it is wrong? i think you getting your kicks out of it is a sad reason for doing it.
  15. what do you hope to gain from feeding frogs to your fish? higher parasite load? i really don't get it please enlighten me....
  16. yeah, but for 50-60 frogs? you get what you pay for. put tub in tank and hey presto. beats running around catching random dirty flies. fly traps are another way. i like to know where my food comes from though. can always breed your own, not as smelly as traps but still not much fun and then just depends how much you value your time.
  17. :sml2: 60 frogs could easily eat about 300 flies a day. $25 per 500 flies. $100 a wk to feed them on just flies, duh winner. Plan fails... dead arowana ... priceless
  18. this old bd is a character. i only put that rock in there about an hour earlier (habitat enhancement lol). http://www.youtube.com/user/nzexotics?feature=mhee#p/u/0/zg0Yl59c0pk
  19. I read through the comments :sml2: ... would be good to figure out what it is. What made me think of this thread was I saw a similar thing coming from a frog stool (was a floater lol) yesterday. First thought was that it was simply being broken down / urates dissipating, but something tells me there is more to it. Will see if I can get some decent footage if i see it again.
