  1. Looks like the midges from last night have laid eggs through my tanks. Typical ... now I am going to have a dabble with raising bloodworms  edit spelling oops
  2. Thursday night whip up when the back door is seething with natures little goodies ... few less components - works just as well
  3. was just worried about parasites coming from the snails .. starting to think just basic issues may of been overlooked and or possibly coupled with albino weaker than norm. :dunno: tbh gave up on the frogs - last year let one lot spawn and spread around some troughs, as had done previously, but got a reasonable result although still some bent spines. will probably try again this summer.
  4. is a good idea. not too worried about lack of hatch though as don't have the room for growing them on and suspect in the past overstocking to be the main cause of problems. if fertility good have a feeling they float initially? then sink - however at 25C they hatch in about two days so not much time for floating ... Use to have plants and so on - however trying to eliminate snails and potential nasty's for now ... sterile nation is the way forward :lar:
  5. frogs now laying own their own accord  . if condition the frogs well then may not even need any other stimulation at all.
  6. wild populations aside. is it not possible for non tiger salamander axolotls to sporadically produce an albino ...
  7. see red glory http://www.clearwatercrayfish.co.nz/koura.html#7
  8. warm the leos up and they move around more too :sml1: if no one local to you has any i can get you some beetles. crickets better though lol
  9. why not just use small mealworms ... tenebrio obscurus = mini mealworm tenebrio molitor = standard/common mealworms. term mini mealworms seems to be used more for small mealworms since the introductory of proper 'mini mealworms' (t. obscurus) to the market ...
  10. people use to feed cat food to turtles not that long ago. as more appropriate foods become available there is often a shift in the food used. grated squash, as mentioned above, is excellent for adding bulk to salads. and dandelion leaves probably more a staple than the flowers ... super easy to grow too
  11. legs if anyone has any questions on breeding fire away. theyre breeding machines frenchy
  12. "Barry the beaver" what a name :rolfl: Top effort there too --- i always have duckweed in my tanks, bog plants in ponds, to try and obtain some benefit from the excess nutrients my heavy handed feeding provides. This aquaponics biz is so much better though ... every fish tank could be producing vege for dinner. Even salmonella salad from turtles :sml2:
  13. i go frog hunting when ever im out on my bike  like to dabble in real hunting when the chance arises too. which seems like never these days but working on that. only seen a few goats up here but haven't gone that of the track.
  14. just a slight rolling felt here about an hour north of wellington
  15. ahhrr captain. not much else to do in these caves. vid is a bit simple - is how i like it though - and a good place for newbies to start. frogs are like the gateway reptile... better them than turtles anyway.
  16. hard life isn't it. wasn't it you who once said many years ago don't waste your time with crickets 8) i should of listened
  17. is a very unique frog call i must admit just been fattening these few up ... or no more beersies for you :rotf:
  18. Made a vid of one of my frog breeding tanks
  19. Count yourself lucky to have even seen it ... i am yet to see a wild gecko
  20. Had to replace blue after he jumped ship Got red on the cricket diet as of last week - gonna build him up big and strong :nilly: Anyone have some blue ones they'd like to share? Would love to see a big one ....
