  9. i chuck cuttlefish in the with the turtles hadnt thought into grinding it up, thinking about it the powders on the market are relatively cheap and a lil goes a reasonably long way so i may just stick to whats safest and save trying to reinvent the wheel!
  10. when i was into plants all i used was sand in the end and with great results, daltons propagating sand which you find at bunnings mitre 10 or all farms cheap to, bout 6-8bux per large bag, I just add straight sand to tank before the water and have water slowly fill the tank then do a couple of large waterchanges turn filter on and water will clear up pretty quick  like alan i never really stirred it up as imo no real need to if well planted as the roots along with the bacteria in the sand (after time) and preferably a filter should all work in well together and balance everything, if you get a build up on the surface you could gravel vac just the top, hope that makes sence lol
  11. awesome ill do abit more reading thanks for your input
  12. was thinking more for beardies but hmm interesting, also flicking through my bearded dragon manual last night and see calcium carbonate recomended, any ideas on this?

  15. imo go for bright goldfish in a pond, they grow fast breed even faster and can be seen (why have fish you bearly see), minnows are great but like whitebait in a pond, not good for much other than livefood imo. otherwise sounds great be nice to see some pics if you get a chance
  16. as said twice above get the mesh from mitre 10 or bunnings, its about 10 bux per meter by 900mm wide, great stuff same as used in security/screen doors, build a wooden frame that fits the top of your tank staple mesh to that and your sorted!
  17. 18. Hey Man Yea im starting to wunder if i should just use batts with hardboard or thinish ply maybe. . . Thanks for the offer ill keep that in mind as still trying to source poly, been quoted $10per sq meter which soon adds up from 1 place and that was 60 mm and they rekond R1.8 insulation value but dont think was fire proof so hmm cant wait to do it though another cold front on the way apparintly lol
  19. p.s if anyone wants to sell me some roaches (american/gisbornes) please pm, cheers
