  1. i am not sure LFS are buying at an unreasonable price. when i sell to LFS i expect to get little but less for them for obvious reasons. only very recently they've been pushing the price down on certain fish but that's because of local competition, still not unreasonable. example: a large female BN well conditioned can easily produce 200-300+ fry every 3-4 weeks. takes about 5-6 weeks for them to hit around 3cm mark which goes for $2each. now i know i dont spend anything close to $400-$600 per month per every female BN i breed with.
  2. that excellent adodge, what are the parents like in terms of colors and type of CT. looking forward to seeing them here is ur pic
  3. nope, the name panagolus was introduced and veto within 12 months which is a shame cuz i really liked the idea of having a separate category for dwarf panaques. Panaqolus was just a name to separate the size different sort of a sub family not an different genus, either way the term is no longer accepted
  4. thanks for thinking of me and congrats on the spawn. ur differently the first to spawn these in NZ and with all the other accounts i've read of they've either provide no photo evidence or its not actually L226 just a different type of panaque that looks similar. keep us up dated.

    had a bad day

thanks guys it still hurts thinking about it. its hard cuz i dont think there was anything i could have done to provent it. yes they're both still alive. female is still very weak and because of the weakened state she has got finrot and cotton eye on one eye but i'll be very surprised if she doesnt make it.

    had a bad day

got home from work today and found one of my 3 foot tank empty which wasnt this morning. the bottom had cracked!! the tank housed 13 blotch fin aspiradoras, 13 dwarf cory, 3 L226, some albino BN and GBA Young. when i found them everything looked dead i quickly transfer them all the the tank next to them but it was too late. i lost all my aspidoras and dwarf cory and one which i am especially sad about is my large female L226. all GBA and albino BN survived  the other 2 L226 was not looking good either especially the female which was so weak that she just sank to the bottom and stayed there. i placed an air stone right next to her and thank fully she started coming right, last time i checked she was gone so i am hoping she is recovering under a piece of wood somewhere. i am always tank extra care with my fancy plecs so never had a lost in all my years of keeping them till today. she was a whopping 13cm+ well conditioned female. the pic below is when she was younger. RIP

    Algae

light and co2 would only add to the problem if u dont have enough plants so like Ianab said, more plants. what are u doing with out a cleaning crew in ur tank? every tank should have a cleaning crew, start with BN.
  14. thats pretty much it these days. terrapin were used to refer brackish turtles. sliders is just a common name for the Trachemys family like cooter is to Pseudemys.
  15. yeah looks like bladderwort which is very noxious weed
  16. i use wood, my is made of Lignum Vitae and cost just over $40 which is pretty cheap for what it is. had my for just over 2 years and i use it on a weekly basis and its still like new.
  17. ouh no, did u just slack off on water change? what was the reason did u know?

    id please

yeah those are L226. very long short on why u bought them as L002 but in short thats what he sold them as to start with cuz he didn't know any better. i bought my as L002 as well but i know it wasn't as soon as i saw them.
  20. i am sure u can find reference to it just by google or search planetcatfish and plecofanatics. its quit an common behavior and females likes the caves as much as the male. yes i am 100% sure i have females. double checked the sex of them on PF as well.
  21. well if u ever change ur mind give me a PM males are not the only one that fans, female does too. i have bamboo and terracotta pots, at the start they like the bamboo but now they just prefer to be in "caves" between the driftwoods. i am goin to drill some holes in a large piece of driftwood for them.
  22. air stones or/and air filters on the glass tanks.
  23. a ha, so u bought that group of 7. i was just about to grab them up  . any chance of sparing a pair to add to my group i got to the point where they're having "mating rituals" with both male and females in the same cave pushing and shoving. female is all well conditioned. they share their tank with 3 other type of ancistrus so they will be getting their own tank in a couple of days and hope to expand my group as i had 5 sold 2 so i can get the group of 7 but yeah..... i have very tan soft water, plenty of wood and vegetation for them to graze on constantly.
