Just be aware, if you are wanting to breed later on down the track, Lithobates will cross quite readily with Peacock species, so you may want to seperate them if you are wanting to breed 8) The peacock bodies tho do look a tad odd... maybe it is angle of pic???

Red tops came in on import recently, not sure what they are like tho... we did get 4 in but when they arrived from supplier, opened the bag... and oh my god, the fish were alive but covered in slime and on their last fins... and stink in the bag was so bad that I near on dry reached, ended up culling them out, as they had sunken in guts also and too far gone.

Oh anthony, what sort of other fish do you like, as in oddball...???

Just close your eyes, you feel so much better :lol: We recently put down two discus :-? , not really too much different, just the size and a bigger fish to dispose of. I just had to make sure my 4 year old was busy looking at the birchirs in the fish shed while the deed was done, not something a kid would enjoy, or then there is the idea that "mummys orandas might like a bounce" :lol:

Don't see that it would be a problem, I had large clown loaches in with our birchirs... just make sure the clowns are not small enough for birchirs mouth, that clown spike would do nasty damage... 8)

Hi pleco people.. I am going to need help sexing some Flash Plecs and Iquitos... Any tips would be most appreciative.

I am definately with the hiff on the concrete method... Hmm I remember watching a doco on people who were stuck in the snow... like freezing temps... and one person was dying and apparently he was in alot of pain freezing to death before he passed, there was nothing peaceful about it... so pass.. concrete method is the way to go.. keeps my mind at ease to know that the fish died instantly.

Looks exactly like the fish I got from a shipment of maleri... bummer I don't have him anymore or I would try and get a decent pic to show you.

Depends on how good they are as parents, both or one of the pair could pick them off, or they could be really good parents. The jewel pair we bred were good parents, alot do make great parents. Just a case of wait and see 8) I have a pair of lionheads that are excellent parents, not one baby has been picked off, and they are still in with mum and dad... and they are at least an inch plus now... and mum and dad still very protective, oh also pays to keep the parents well fed so hunger doesn't tempt them to have a nosh up.. that can happen sometimes if they feel they aren't getting enough food.

Often many cichlids will dig another spot for their babies to pile into once they have hatched and are free swimming... my Jack Dempseys and Chocolate Cichlids etc do that, the main spawning nest dug, then they would shift the babies on to another location... sounds like your Jewels have tucked them away in a safer spot.

Not sure snookie, might pay to have a surf on google... It is very easy to sex them once seeing them and knowing what to look for. You could check their privates :lol:
