    ID Please

Yeah go with what Frenchy said, the male definately needs to mature colour wise.
  2. Yeap 6 bars can be very aggressive aswell... The trets are doing well fishy_t growing fast now and mellowed out a wee bit but yeap can go through the odd vicious moment.. had one shifting stones the other day..
  3. Heya Looks like Maleri variant to me too 8)
  4. That looks like one of the fish that came in as "Electric Blue Haps"... the supplier had "Electric Blue Haps" on the list available, and at the same time had "Electric Blue Fryeri" on the list also, the fryeri being alot more expensive and the others being alot cheaper. I actually sent Frenchy a couple of pics of the ones that arrived at hubbys work (labelled "Electric Blue Haps") and they clearly had utaka spots aswell, after seeing them on arrival, I swear they looked like lithos x fryeri. The more expensive ones on the list "fryeri" were very nice tho... but bugger the cheaper ones, they definately looked like crosses.
  5. Heya Nikki Glad you found the forums, will give you a bell tonight

    Cichlid Newbie

Looks great And welcome from another African keeper
  9. Yeah he will no doubt take out your tetras... they will take fish below if they feel like a snack or two 8) Ohh and just noticed your "heaps of guppies" he will have a high time cleaning those out
  10. MAF made a visit to hubbys work regarding the danios... he was very reasonable and apparently really good to deal with. They didn't have any at all, however had ordered some in when they first came on the list just labelled Red Danio ages ago... of course no one at that stage knew what they were. He asked what tank they were in, had a look and didn't take any of the zebras, leoprards etc, he obviously knew they weren't livebearers.
  11. I know the aro has had floating pellets, but there is more of a range I am sure, not sure about sinking, will suss that out.
  12. Hikari is readily available in NZ, hubby is had it in before where he works... I am pretty sure it is Brooklands or Petware that stock it, will double check for you guys and ask him It is definately in NZ tho as hubby feeds Hikari to the Arowana.
  13. Yeap I think it comes down to the individual fish... they definately have different natures and personalities I reckon, even within the same species you can get real trouble makers and real placid individuals... fish definately aren't dumb like so many people think... 8)
  14. So sorry to hear that the thugs firstly broke in but then secondly smashed your tank and murdered some of your pets
  15. It can often be the case that the other fryeri won't colour up smidey due to the fact you have a dominant male fully coloured. I have two males in a display tank that are both coloured up, but one is very bright, the other not so bright.. then there are 2 other males that haven't coloured at all, just show a hint of blue.
  16. Are you sure you are done ryan  Hmm that would have been a right royal pain in the behind :-? You could go and edit the feedback you left MUAHAHAHAHAHA! That might change his mind and stick to his word...
  17. Definately ask away DonnaM, there are great people on this forum with alot of knowledge to share... 8) nick777, everyone is helpful here but when DonnaM posted her query you weren't helpful at all on your first reply, it did seem somewhat rude and discouraging and would have made any newbie forum user weary of asking or posting again. And don't worry about extra work for the mods, that's what we are here for.
  18. Hey nick777 that is a little uncalled for :-? , this site is to help people and DonnaM has every right to ask for advice. That is what the reptile section and this whole site is all about. Alot of people like to ask others with first hand experience, the web can be very useful however at times there is often conflicting info, first hand experience from other keepers you cannot beat.
  19. I get a big tired of seeing some of the stuff that comes out of Singapore, and other asian exporters, not all is bad but alot is. It's a shame the suppliers don't go with more european imports, I know it's more expensive but I sure as hell don't mind paying extra pingas on fish to cover costs if they are of great quality. Thanks for bringing it to peoples attention sharn over the rummynose, nothing worse than someone wanting to order in some rummynoses to find they aren't exactly what they had in mind.
  20. Welcome to the forums Karlos Bet you can't wait to set up that aquarium 8)
  21. Did you definately purchase a male/female pair? I can see a hint of darkish large anal spots on the anal fin of the fish on the left (however, hard to tell on angle), yet... the females can show a hint of anal spots too. The larger fish on the rights anal fin looks clean (showing on this screen anyway)... Your male should be showing some signs of colour, yet sometimes it comes down to environment and often speed up with developing colour when they have a reason to, ie dominance etc.
  22. Oh god yeah that is the major concern Frenchy, you are bang on. There is already someone I know of out of town that has unfortunately fallen into that trap and thrown some of the same shipment in with some Johanni.... arggggh :-?
  23. They definately have their own tanks... 8) They are even in seperate parts of the house, so there is never any chance of them ever finding each other with lids off tanks with water changes etc (even tho I could tell them apart just from studying them so often while peering at them) Fish shed will be the same, Johanni down one end, others down the other The "fish" match up in regards to the description of maingano, the males versus females colouration etc.. I only got them in the first place because they are a stunning fish.. and I was curious as to what they were as after keeping Johanni for sometime, something just niggled at me that they were something different somewhat, that's why I purchased a pair (not overly cheap either ) And took some pics to flick to you Frenchy to get your thoughts... that's when you got back to me with your findings and thoughts etc.. I am just going to plug away with them, so far they are breeding well and the fish throw really nice healthy stock. Will definately suss out when this local keeper had acquired the maingano, I do know that the purple mbuna arrived here somewhat well before.
