We have recently got some cories in at work and they are labelled as 'black sail cories' on the lists. Ive had a quick look through planet catfish and i really cant pick them out :lol: They are a light brown with darker small spots, a vertical black band running over their eye and have a black dorsal. There was also a faint dark line going from the bottom of the dorsal down to the anal fins (or there abouts) but this could have been stress from being moved (i drew a picture when they came in). Also are the arcuatus available (they were labelled as schwartz but theyre not)? Or would we be more likely to get the narcissus here? And one more question :lol: Columbian whips are Rineloricaria eigenmanni?

no personal experience and that is because ive read all the horror stories, i would only use it if no other option is available and they were going to die anyway- seems it usually speeds up that process hope everyone whos had bad experiences with it catches it in time and their fish recover

unless your tank is over 400L (havent re-read the last page or two :oops: ) i would stay well away from those sharks, i wouldnt even house 3 in my 460L if i could. big, fat speedy bullets they are :lol:

i wont feed the wardley shrimp pellets anymore, they made my water reek when i fed them to my oscar (could partially be that he spat a bit out as they do). your gravel sounds lovely :lol: how often have you been siphoning it?

that will be why it isnt going away, formalin and malachite wont be going into the intestine to kill them (at best the blood stream as it goes over the gills). have you contacted all your local vets? metro is really worth its weight in gold and if you are stuck pm me. i have a bit here and you have been battling it for months and i know how that feels, i dont have enough to do water treatments though, only food ones so they would need to be eating still.

All fish have hexamita in their gut, and its harmless until their immune system is down for some reason and it takes hold. IME if they arent showing the poop then they arent infested enough for it to be a problem but a few feeds of food with metro in it will make sure it stays away. IMO something is stressing them to the point that it is able to talk hold. I also dont see how stripping the tank will work because as far as i know it lives in the gut and none of the flagellites make it out into the water to cause issues? I am wondering if perhaps when you did dose it wasnt strong enough to do enough damage and now it has become immune to your treatments? Im not sure if it can become immune but i know certain other nasties can.

They are sensitive to salt but half doses generally dont upset them too much. I wouldnt go dumping a heap in like you would treat a normal fish with scales, ive seen what that can do to the poor critters

PP worked for me, but i sat by the tank for the full 5 hour treatment and didnt take my eyes off them. It eats everything (including your fish if its too strong) so it is quite a risky way to go. I made up a stock solution and with that i used 1ml/2 gallons which equaled 2ppm. My stock soultion was 10g in 665ml of water i think.

My boy rolls on his side when hes watching the goings on on top of his tank, and when hes having a sulk cause i filled in his beautifully constructed bare spot in the gravel Keep an eye on it though just incase. May pay to spy on him so you can see how he acts when your not around

Its better than mine (i wont embarass myself by showing just how bad). My cats are scared of my tanks, they learnt their lesson by sitting on top of the oscar tank and putting their tails, nose and feet into the water :lol:

no carbon in my tanks and everythings good as gold, that space is better used for more noodles or some sponge IMO

If they were previously in a tank with decor and substrate that could be the reason, a totally foreign enviroment. Also discus can take a while to settle in, some will only take a few hours but some may take weeks. If you dont want to keep them in there permanently i personally would probably move the parents back to where they were, always better to lose the babies than lose the parents if you keep moving them around.

Ill second what DG said, discus dont make for happy chappies when they are in groups of less than 5 IME, they just bicker all the time If you drop them your stocking sounds ok IMO

Your O and plec will be fine long term but you need a minimum of 6x3x2 for an aro or clown and even then IMO thats too small for a clown (i saw a pic of a 42" one ). I have an oscar and they are a bit easier to mix fish with than the two larger ones, not to mention easier to house :lol: Generally O's and plants dont mix too well, they see them as toys alot but i have a few friends who keep them in successful planted tanks.

I do 1tbsp of salt per 20L (as long as you dont have plecs, clowns etc in there) and bump the temp up to 28-29. If they were previously healthy they should be able to fight it off eventually.

They can live double ten years- a friend of mine knows a lady who has had one particular discus for over 20 years and she didnt get it as a baby baby either Shes in the UK tho, not here. If you like i can post a link to some pics a friend took showing the difference between old discus and sick discus?
