    Rotten smell!

my guess would be the remains of the fish, i have no idea what else it could have been. if the molly died quite a while ago, im sure it probably would start to smell a bit. Do a big 50% water change, and that should remove a lot of the bugs that the body has left, then just observe them like you said you would, and see how they go.

    altum angels

i have not bought any, however i did see them when i went up there, they look really nice, lovely straight fins. He's got a pic on his website if u wanna see them.
  8. sorry pay is only going through tonight, will get the money to you tomorrow. can't wait.
  9. ok, thanks to HandS, we have discovered these are in fact NOT Apistogramma hongsloi as i was told, rather, they are Apistogramma bitaeniata...all is well, im still happy.
  10. haha thanks guys....soon after posting i went back in my room to check on them...and found the male cockatoo having a bit of a nibble...he's now in the naughty jar until i can find a better home for him. Also, must be my luckiest day with fish ever, i noticed my rams have a new batch of wigglers, and my wild caught agassizii flamengo pair are going at it too in the main tank I NEED MORE TANKS!
  11. hooray, after getting four wild caught apistogramma hongsloi's off nz discus, i was lucky enough to discover i had 1 male and 3 females. Anyway, after performing the ritual water changes i saw these two hopping on the good foot and doing the bad thing. Quite a decent size spawn compared to what my cockatoo gives me..anyway, here's a few shabby pics (they spawned in the pot furthest away from the front). in between runs there she is laying her laying again, that's the best pic i can get of the male unfortunately. will keep you updated, it will be interesting to see how these guys parenting skills compare to the domestic ones we get usually.
  12. sounds like a mission
  13. the male guppies will only nip eachothers fins if there are females in with them, if there are only males they will be fine with eachother, my bet would be the neons...

    Weak rams !!!

hey, i also think that the balloon rams are stupid and ugly, just onselling weak fish is not a good ideea at all. How often were you doing water changes on you tanks with the rams in them? i think dropsy and HITH are both caused by poor water quality (please correct me if im wrong someone). The only gold rams i have seen around are the gold balloon ones unfortunately. In a couple of months i may be able to help you out with some little blue rams.
  15. definately wouldn't be your bristlenose, im pretty sure guppies and platies are vegetarians so they could be the culprits. I know nothing about loaches so it could be them?
  16. ok thanks guys will do
  17. Ok, so i have had my rams fry free swimming for about one week now and the female already has her egg tube thingy sticking out really far. I know that angels eat their babies if they're ready to breed again (well mine did) and i was just curious to know if rams will do that too. I do have another tank for them to spawn in, however its the existing fry that im worried about, will taking their parents out now be too early and not give them the "raising of fry instincts" that they need, or will they be fine now? Thanks everyone.
  18. never thought about that to be honest, ill see what my stepdad can make (he's a builder) and we'll go from there. thanks for pointing that out.
  19. thanks everyone, it's been a long time coming, but freshwest gave me the awesome break i needed.
  20. i paid $30ea but that was an awesome deal, around tauranga lfs' they have them for at least $40...so about $20 if you can get them from the wholesaler, just make sure to specify if you want triple reds or double reds (double reds only have colour on the dorsal and caudal fin(tail fin), triple reds have colour on the dorsal, caudal and anal (three fins coloured, hence the name "triple" red). these are awesome fish.
  21. ok, well here's my female and male cockatoo..see if they look anything like yours female male
  22. ok, well after a VERY generous donation of plants from freshwest, i have re-done the aquascape a bit. Today i witnessed the anubias, lotus, all green stem plants and the twisted val all pearling! Tis an awesome sight. Well, the first pic is to show the generousity of freshwest, he gave me all those plants for free! too nice fresh anyway, here's the pics. overall shot left-hand side right-hand side hope u like, any constructive criticism is most welcome
  23. sounds like you may have a cockatoo on your hands, any chance of a pic?
