  1. i think a male would most definitely help. if the "main tank" is bigger than the one theyre in now, sure...will give them more room, and they will have to re-create their territories, if you do, put the least dominant one in first.
  2. i have never seen an albino corydoras of any kind other than bronze (which is the common albino i believe).
  3. Got my book today too, have read most of it, it's a really great book, lots of useful info. This book is fantastic, and i definitely recommend. Thanks Henry
  4. hey there, sounds like you prob have two females im afraid. If one is hiding and has gone dark she's prob being harassed by the dominant female.
  5. it's had its ups and down lately, unfortunately i had a bad case of hair algae, so decided to double-dose flourish excel, as you do, however in this case it unfortunately killed 3 discus. So, i then moved on to good ol' algae fix which worked in 5 days! no probs with fish at all. im kicking myself for not buying that first now. Umm, on a good note, i started up the DIY CO2 unit, and boy have i seen results! all plants pearling away happily, and im gona add another DIY unit to see how that goes, then when i get some more $$$ ive got a pressurised unit lined up, thats if its not sold by the time i get my ass into gear. Ill post a pick when i can be bothered getting up, so may be a few days
  6. and you'd have to get the control gear for that unit from his other auction :-?
  7. HandS has macmasteri, i am unsure if they are breeding or not however. i no longer have cockatoos, must make room for the wilds
  8. possibly..you could try it out and if they start getting aggressive just remove the ones you least like
  9. im sure i could pop in one time, ummm so, you want to have; agassizii, cockatoos, kribs, rams and macmasteri??? that's simply too many dwarf cichlids for your tanks unfortunately, which means you're just going to have to buy more...damn, what a shame
  10. how many of each type are you going to add? This technique is better than adding one species at a time, as the ones already in there will think of it as their territory and would really harass the newcomers, possibly even kill them. What sex are the macmasteri?
  11. They wont interbreed as they are not the same species, you would need quite a large tank for these guys, as the males really need 2-3 females each because they establish a harem. Each female keeps her own territory which can sometimes be one square foot or more, then each male has a larger territory (covers the females territories), which can be 2 square feet (if i've remembered correctly). You would be able to house them in a really densely planted 3 foot, with lots of caves, however obviously the bigger the better (4 foot or larger would be preferable). Just one male of each is all you need, any more and you're going to find yourself with dead males, until the dominant one remains.
  12. thanks Keri, i walked in on the pair of agassizii going at it this afternoon too which was a nice surprise. here's just a few pics: male bitaeniata: female agassizii with eggs: male agassizii: i was quite surprised how clear the last pic was as it was taken from my bed on the other side of the room zoomed right in  if i get too close he just swims away.
  13. just beautiful, two pairs of discus going at once too is very impressive.

    L shape tank

well done jude, your tank looks excellent.
  15. it will be fine, i have mine in at 30 and its doing great
  16. shot HandS, nicest golds ive seen good luck with them.
  17. hey there, depending on the size of the baby guppies I'd say they probably wouldn't survive the neons. Considering you haven't seen your male bn, id say it could be a possibility that they have eggs.
  18. Freshwest, you continue to amaze us all! That is quite the forest you have going there. You are my inspiration
  19. trademe is a good place to look, other than that there are expensive units sold in pet shops. I personally was lucky enough to get a shop unit through my work. Metal halide bulbs are a very intense lighting and are much better than fluoros for deeper aquariums. It is a whole lighting unit, yes.
  20. hah, excellent thinking luke, that's a fantastic idea
  21. Hey Vickie good choice, amazonian tanks look just awesome when fully kitted out with plants and beautiful colourful fish. That tank is quite a deep one, if you're willing to spend the extra, i would recommend metal halide lighting (if you really want to get your plants going), but the key is to find the balance of lighting, CO2 and ferts... Good luck and welcome
  22. well done Tim!! those eggs look nice and colourful, almost like a raspberry . Interesting how they lay their eggs above the surface of the water... Did you have these snails in the tank just for breeding? Well done.
  23. yes, i treat my water, i really wouldnt like to try and see what happnes without curing the water first. I would be keen to see what happens if the water wasnt treated.
  24. hah, good work splendidus. Nice to hear that MTS is kicking in. Welcome aboard and have fun here.
  25. i went outside to my buckets today to have a look. I have three out there, and only one of them has some mozzie larvae in them, prob only about 10 in there though. Definitely must be the weather slowing them down.
