  1. One of these should do the job.. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 234440.htm If you wanted to go bigger http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 704511.htm I have a 70LPM one running 30-40 airstones at the moment. If you wanted to go with a diagram pump then hailea bring out one like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 898861.htm that is quite big and you can fit the irrigation stuff onto to plumb it in..
  2. Baroness have you considered started out with a low tech planted tank first? Maybe just some descent lights, good ferts and seeing if you get the result you want? Once things are established you can always add CO2 later.. I have seen plenty of nice planted tanks without CO2..
  3. lol they obviously have no idea, me thinks they might get them removed for free (or it might even cost them..).
  4. Cool It seems everyone is randomly managing to breed these guys at the moment! Must have been a good batch come through the wholesalers a while back or they like the weather..
  5. I have seen long finned mountain minnows in NZ not for a long time though, I am pretty sure it is the type of thing that if you don't selectively breed for it disappears eventually..
  6. Yep they are all the same species so will all cross probably best to breed them all in separate tanks. There is no reason why you cannot breed them in separate tanks and raise the fry together though..
  7. 0.4 of a PH change is a big deal especially fluctuating every day it would be causing stress to your fish. I am not up on the play with these CO2 systems and stuff like that but I would definitely be trying to do something to fix it.. Maybe increasing the KH in your tank would help?
  8. I think $56 is pretty reasonable if they have to send someone out, they have to pay his wages, petrol and all the admin costs associated with it.. I mean depending on where he has to travel from it could take him 2 hours to get there, do the inspection/paperwork and then back to the office. I know it would suck at 12 but I am sure you have ways of earning money Or have birthdays and things like that..
  9. Do they have to send someone out to inspect the cage and stuff?
  10. I am wanting to know the same thing What you planning to put in the ar380?
  11. Dunno I can pass his details on to you if you want.. Did you want to be added to the local club email list?
  12. I know someone giving gravel away in Wanganui if it helps you at all..
  13. Elephant fish are around at the moment and are pretty cool Failing that try some dwarf cichlids..
  14. I leave a gap so you can run cords and external filter pipes and stuff down the back.. It is also helpful to leave enough of a gap to get things that fall down behind it out! Also be careful having your tank around windows too much light will cause algae problems.
  15. lol they are known for doing that when they get bigger, they are deep water fish so have alot better eye sight than most other fish so go around after dark munching them all up Cool fish though!
  16. They are great easy care fish that's for sure The tank is looking awesome!
  17. Good work, at least now you know you have a fertile male/female.. Good luck with raising them!
  18. You might be out of luck then I have a few president pumps here that used to work well but diaphragms wore out as well.. I did hold out hope of fixing them one day.. Sometimes when these guys go under someone else starts making parts for them? Or (as you have suggested) another brand might fit, I would take the diaphragm out and take it to a petshop, I know a few of the shops have a "junk" or treasure stash somewhere with all sorts of random bits you might be able to match it up with something. Or ask the shop if they know if there are replacements?
  19. Yeah most shops should have a stash or access to the supplier who can source the parts, look for one that is selling the president range of pumps first.. Another option could be trademe but I am unsure how much luck you would have there?
  20. BYO is good, booze costs heaps Also if you do buy anything don't say it is for a wedding as the price seems to go up 10 fold.. Use your mates and people you know around the place to get the best price for things..
  21. Master test kit would be the way to go especially at those prices I can give you some plants nothing flash but stuff that grows like weeds, java moss and indian fern plus probably some java fern as well.
  22. Ph would be handy but probably not actually that vital, ammonia is pretty vital.. TBH I wouldn't bother fishless cycling a 180L tank, just start off stocking slowly and feed lighting, and transfer some media from an established tank and you should be good to go. As long as your aren't cycling with really sensitive fish any ammonia produced will be heavily diluted and not even detectable on your test kit. What fish are you planning to stock the tank with?
  23. Glad to hear a resolution was found sounds like you are getting a good deal and he is keeping a customer I do know of other cases where people have tried to sort these things out, but they have gone and slammed the shop on forums before giving the shop a chance. In return the shop has told them where to go as the slander of the shop without giving them a good chance to fix it was considered to be payment enough.
  24. Before complaining I would ring and ask to talk to Bob and point out how unhappy you are and how you feel he has broken rules etc by selling it out from under you and giving him another chance to fix it
  25. Maybe the whitespot was introduced with the rhom barbs? Were they only a new addition and were they quarantined before adding them? I don't know much about the incubation time and all that stuff but it is possible that at 22C it could have laid dormant for a relatively long period of time waiting for something to lower the fishes immunity and kick in again.. Anyway hope you get on top of it soon, it can be a killer for such a common problem..
