  1. I have seen it in the supermarket as well in the health food area..
  2. I just culture mine on scouring pads and get no bugs But yeah would be interseting to hear you how you get on, I guess as long as you don't stick the moth balls in the cultures or no flies affected by them get back in there then it would be fine..
  3. Whats the KH of the water you are trying to lower the PH of? If the KH is high then it will take alot to lower the PH..
  4. I think the synos can get in and steal eggs which would be a good thing in a mixed african tank where you don't want any babies anyway.. But in a breeding tank it wouldn't be ideal, it could probably be mitigated by providing lots of enclosed breeding sites which are easier for the fish to guard.
  5. I kept them together for a while and had no problems the knife just found himself somewhere to chill out and was happy. Most of a cichlids aggression is directed at fish that are the same/similar to them as they are a biggest threat to their breeding etc
  6. I have seen them kept together before just watch aggression towards the knife and aclimitize slowely if you have them in different water..
  7. I am with you on the rams I have tried many different blues and gold rams no matter what I do including daily water changes with perfect water, pretreating them for every condition you can imagine I just cannot keep them alive or raise their fry
  8. Congrats to everyone on their new positions
  9. Sounds like a good project good luck.. I know there was someone who used to breed clowns in NZ have you got in touch with them for advice I believe they were forum members as well..
  10. Awesome, they are nice looking fish and an awesome tank Good luck with the potential breeding down the track, they certainly look happy enough so your half way there..
  11. I think the general rule is 1 day per mm of silicone if I am just doing dividers then I leave the tank for a day or so in the fishroom (24C and dry with dehumidifier running) and then fill it have never had any issues, if it is structural or somewhere that may leak I leave it for an extra day.
  12. Best fish I fidn to breed are fish that you like

    tank

Yeah pics aren't that clear really, it would probably be ok without bracing but I would add some at each end and through the middle probably no need for euro bracing..
  14. If you are redoing the entire tank then you will need to remove all the glass and redo the silicone in the joins as well, if the other silicone has expired then the whole lot has so your best to do it all. I have heard from people in the know that silicone only has an average life of 10yrs sure most of the time it lasts longer but depends on conditions etc..
  15. Pretty sure the DET engines are alot heavier to handy the force fed induction etc, you can get bolt on kits for the de motor but I think the only run on low boost etc unless you rebuild it.. That bluebird is cool
  16. Nice fish, I would guess male also.. It has nice long flowing fins and is very blue, however as you know sometimes females of these guys can be quite colourful and have nice finage especially with the age/size I am guessing this one is..
  17. If the fin is damaged there is every chance it may grow back to at least somewhere near what it used to be.. If it is deformed then it wont grow back or improve at all.. I think posting a pic may help identify what has happened here, but generally damage should be fairly obvious..
  18. Mine are getting NLS and prestige vege pellets at the moment.. Will possibly go onto granugreen and spirulina flake when I run out depending on if more prestige gets imported and if I get more NLS in..
  19. Do a google search there are lots of ideas out there some are relatively simple others not so much..
  20. I chuck them at the top too, sometimes if you have wet bags or even in the worst case if one leaks then the heatpad doesn't get wet. I Also work on the principal there will be more air to keep the heat pad working at the top of the box as opposed to buried under the bags and suffocated..
  21. At a guess there would be plenty of crashed ones around for a $5k fun car just do the work yourself I think this thread just comes down to what you like, I don't like the diamantes I think they are big slow and ugly all the ones I have driven have been like that my mate has owned a few and all of them I was able to beat with my 1800 NA DOHC TX3.. But they are great cruisers and really comfy on the open road which is what they were designed for. I don't like the preludes either they just didn't drive nicely and weren't all that fast for a 2.2L would rather go 1.6 or 1.8 vtec in a civic or integra. The integras you drove were they both DOHC vtec? There are plenty of versions of them some have SOHCs which are nowhere near as good.. I am a fan of hondas too have been in quite a few very fast ones, but the black tops are great engines and in a really good package from the factory as Paul has suggested. Unless you are good at fixing stuff I would stay away from WRX's and most other turbos in that range they would be fairly gone by this stage, but advantage is there is alot of parts around for them as everyone crashes them so you could keep one running. This is an interesting discussion would be interesting to see what you end up getting
  22. That is stupid I would have refused to leave with my fish and told them to contact the manager as you had cleared it with him first.. It is amazing how out of hand all this is gone, just one call to the SPCA will have them tell you they have no concerns so NZ couriers has just let something go wild.
  23. Yep its rubbish, get the name of your local branch manager, ring the SPCA the chief inspector at SPCA is a good man and asked for the name and number of the person saying that and rung them direct for me and cleared it up right away. He thinks it is all rubbish and as far as he is concerned the SPCA has no problems with it..
