  1. I find that interesting levamisole is known to be very safe causing no harm in massive doses even upto 25mg/L..
  2. I used nails with a square of ply under the head to stop the nail pulling through, pretty rough but works well.. Just siliconed or taped up the gaps between the sheets to stop drafts or anything like that, silicone doesn't melt the poly.
  3. I got a whole heap of various thicknesses (all fireproof) for free as it cannot be recycled..
  4. I AM CHAROPHYTE! And I have the kryptonite so it is the end for you supasi!

Looking good, willyou be selling any fry if you are successful in raising them..
  6. Just a reminder to everyone that the next central fish keepers meeting is on the 27th June at the highbury whanau centre in Palmerston north at 1pm. Hope to see all the usual faces plus some new ones there, this meeting is going to be a big one so it would be awesome if everyone could make a huge effort to make it

Yellows shouldn't be too bad just make sure there is plenty of water movement.. If they are so under developed they are lying down then stick them in a guppy trap with an airstone to keep them moving, once they are free swimming then let them in with the older ones, provided they aren't like twice the size they should be fine

If they are ready to spit then they will? Otherwise remove the females and strip them then put the babies in their own tank..
  9. Yeah guess it is like anything, depends on the genetics of the fish, how they were raised (temp, water conditions etc) what they were fed on and how lucky you are..
  10. Search can be made alot better by filtering it down to just search the cichlids section..

Yeah wait a few weeks and strip them. Ttumblers are handy if you accidently strip them too early or if you have a really hard to get fish that just wont hold full term. I have had very limited success with tumbling eggs from the beginning when I have tried it, I think the DIY tumbler I made wasn't suitable.. If you want one (and can't find one for sale) then just google and you will find tons.
  12. And they move fish tanks too At least they did when I moved down here anyway, it is still a pain moving the fish and then waiting for the truck to arrive with your tanks to put them, I had to get in touch with someone down here with heaps of spare tanks and move my fish into their tanks.. Those houses are so poorly insulated it isn't funny so I would be inclined to heat most the tanks..
  13. Congrats, a fish that isn't eating, looks like she is holding a mouthful of something and seems to churn them around is most likely holding You have a few options avaliable and this question has been asked alot try using the search function to save all of us typing it all out again If you have no luck then ask again..

lol probably the reason I have no interest in the big oddballs.. I enjoy breeding fish and would love to know that I have at least a chance of getting males and females and breeding them The challenge of breeding fish and fun of growing out your own babies and breeding from the best to improve them and spread nice fish at a good price is what I enjoy about my hobby..

Yeah I am tempted too but a bit concerned that the wholesalers may just send males if I ordered like 6.. And its alot of money to buy 10+ and hope they slip a female or 2 in.
  16. I remember someone did import and sell a heap of them a while back, I think the general consensus was they were crap can't remember the reason why though?
  17. Yeah I am a fan of the eftpos/credit cards too It is quite funny the number of people that comment on the credit cards lying around my fishroom and try and give them to me thinking someone might steal them lol. Filter wool seems to go well too
  18. I have no idea on discus but I would be fairly confident that the parents would feed the babies through the initial delicate stage for the first few weeks and after that I am sure the babies would start onto pellets finely crused or even decap brineshrimp.. There is only one way to find out
  19. Male cockatoo - dward cockatoo cichlid (Apistogramma cacatuoides). They are quite common and easy to get in NZ now..
  20. Alot of it comes down to lack of minerals or trace elements in the water too so adding some sort of trace might help?
  21. Easiest way is to have lots of plants in your tank particularly floating ones for the fry to hide in.. Another way is to house the females in net a with with fairly big holes large enough for the fry to get away from them to savefy in the tank.
  22. tBristlenoses get reasonably big and make alot of mess (poos) I would recomend something like an otto.
  23. Feeding them things like spirulina powder to fill them with nutrients before they are eaten..
  24. I would be water changing until the water is clear, have you tried adding crabon or something like that to the filter? I am unsure if it would help but it might do..
  25. Another thing is with how munted the orandas are they are very slow to get food, if you stick them in with other faster fish they won't get much food and can be outgrown and eaten or just never do very well..
