I have heard that electra/giraffes/empresses are good hosts too.. The person who is selling the breeding ones on trademe says they used red zebras/yellows though so they might work.

Yeah 50/50 at 26 is what I usually work on too.. However that might not apply to all apistos so hard to know

There are some instructions here from someone who put their fish to sleep using clove oil and did some surgery, the fish didn't make it but I don't think that was clove oil related.. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=37156 TBH I would examine ASAP if there is something internal going on like an infection you need to know ASAP so you can treat it with antibiotics while you still have a chance.

As Ira said it should be fine most of the bacteria is contained in the filter anyway

I always thought that people dealt with car sales yards and trade ins to avoid all the hassles like these, the sales person or person doing the deal should have outlined these things before the sale.. To me it sounds like they have got upset they had to spend money on the car they sold you and want to try and recoup some of it, either that or they have put your old car through a WOF it has heaps of issues they didn't know about and want you guys to fix them..

It should have been defined before you guys did the deal, you should have been given $xx trade in for a certain state car.. Generally unless you have a really nice car they just get rid of them at the auctions and have that built into the price so it shouldn't really be a biggie for them.

Good idea, I have heard of it working for other fish so it sounds like you have a really good plan there, make sure the current from that pump isn't so much that the milt gets blown away rather than over the eggs. BTW really nice fish you have there I wish you luck in breeding them!

With the number that you have and the size tank I wouldn't be stressing too much about separating them at the moment the tank is quite big and you have a large number of them to spread aggression out as well. Phoenix was the gill plate 100% with your spawn? That is not a method that I have managed to find with sexing young agassizi..

If it was stable at 7.2 then don't stress about it. Also (unless you are keeping hard water fish) if it is stable at 6 then don't stress about it either

If your KH is low then just add some peat or oak leaves (dead and brown) or alder cones or something like that it will soften the water. Without raising your KH was your PH unstable?

Boban works for brooklands so any fish that orders from them should be able to get the fish in Now I will wait patiently for boban to post pics of some new cichlids in this shipment..

Yeah had similar issues, either pimples or just fast breathing and loss of balance/appetite and then death.. Who knows what happens to them I don't think I did anything wrong to all of the various batches that I have lost the same way so think it is something to do with rams. It was interesting that Adrienne and myself got batches of NZ bred rams at the same time from the same place and treated them 2 completely different ways different sized tanks water etc and all of ours perished the same way..

Does Andrew Soh suggest an appropriate antibiotic to use? It seems like you have an good theory but you really need to know what to use. There are different antibiotics for different bacterial infections, the easiest to get for fish is furan2 from the petshop but you might need to get something different from the vets if that doesn't work..

I saw a post somewhere saying that 3ft tubes were very uncommon apart from in fish tanks so not many wholesalers will carry the 6500k tubes, you might get lucky but I would say you may end up going to your shop for one of them..

Cool looking tank - no comment on the leleupi and shellies lol What are the schooling fish you have in there? And how many gold heads do you have? Where did you get your big shells from they look awesome..

If the fish is getting really picked on you can just house one with a shell in a net breeder or guppy trap, I kept my male in a guppy trap for a while when my pair were going through rough times in their relationship and couldn't stop beating each other up.
