  1. hiya, pretty sure you can hire them from hirepool if you olnly need it once. i used one to get my cat out from under the house last time we moved house. good luck barny
  2. i'm trying to figure out if my glass catfish is heavy with eggs  or sick , and wonder if anyone can help? water perameters are 27 degrees ph 6.4 soft water Water changed 50% per week zero ammonia zero nitrates very low nitrites all other glass cats and fish in the tank are well, feelers always pointing forward and behavior is very normal. here's a pic if it works (doesnt normally) many thanks, Barny
  3. its great to see you have a zebra spiney eel, which variety did you get? I have one about 2 and a half years old, about 35cm. i have always been looking for another like her and felt like i'd won the fa cup when i saw two at hollywoods albany. after eagerly making a purchase and bringing them both straight home i settled back to watch how they would behave, and they did exactly as i suspected, buried themselves! in the last week they have been coming out looking for food, and playing with the larger eel, one youngun on each flank, its a "keep up if you can game", fun to watch. it was now that i have noticed the tail. my older spiney eel is mastacembelidea zebrinus, with a continuous dorsal and anal. the new fish are macrognathus zebrinus, the anal and dorsal stop before a very fishlike caudial tail fin. i was a bit pissed off at first as i was hoping to get a breeding partner for my older eel, but these guys are so cool and fun to watch i dont mind now. anyone else got an older zebra eel? i'll be interested to know the size and age as mine has eclipsed sizing info given on various websites. cheers, Barny
  4. thank you, i'll try the furan 2.
  5. I have a large adult discus, nearly two years old that has started headstanding when resting. i have managed to cancel out many of my theories and i now beleive he has a bacterial infection of the inner ear, effecting the pitching control. all other behavior is normal, colour is normal and feeding is also very normal. temperature is 29 degrees, ph 6.2 and zero annonia or nitrate present, water changes are 10% daily 50% weekly 200% quarterly. food is bloodworm, new spectrum discus bits and beefheart. Through my research i have found that dropping and maintaining ph 5.5 will assist as this will stop the bacteria propogating within the infection, but i would like to combine this with an antibiotic treatment, which brings me here. can anyone tell me if they have treated their discus with antibiotics and advise me on which vet / pet shop i could source the antibiotic and correct advise on its use. My information is sourced from andrew soh on the simply discus forum, search headstanding andrew soh it will be top of the list. thanks all, BArny
  6. thanks, that makes sense. will keep a close eye on her, ive put a permeable seperator in the tank to give her some space. cheers, Barny
  7. check this out, i use it all the time. http://guppyplace.tripod.com/Problems.html good luck, Barny
  8. sounds like fish tuberculosis, euthanise immediately, do some reasearch on dealing with the tankmates. good luck, Barny
  9. I Have a beautiful red tailed female guppy, prolific breeder about 9 months old to a year. recently treated for velvet, off medication (pimafix) for one week with no signs off new fungal growth. ph 6.4, temp 26 degrees water changed 30% 2-3 times a week, in 40 litres with one other female and one male. all other water perameters are safe. over the last couple of days her ovipositor has become very swollen. she's normally in tune with the other female, dropping her brood within a day of the other female's lot, but she's now a few days late. could there be a blockage? any ideas? behavior is starting to change also, she feeds normally but has become lathergic hanging around in one spot for long periods of time. any help on this issue would be great. Thanks, Barny
  10. thanks all, but he passed last night. we will have a morning of mourning before going to lfs to look for a new male. cheers, Barny
  11. well its been 10 days now and he's still displaying the same problems, tried medicating, isolating, he only moves when i chase him with my finger. any other suggestions would be very welcome, a few more days and i may have to euthanise him. thanks, Barny
  12. cool, will put him in a floating container and see if that helps. Most corydoras come up for air as they are used to being in water with low oxygen levels similar to the way gourami's will occasionally take a breath of air, and it is essentail for them to be able to. tank temp is 26 and air stone breaks the water surface, i beleive the stroke theory is the best so far. thank you.
  13. Hi Guys, i've got a bunch of 8 pygmy corydoras, one of them has started lying on the gravel motionles on his side, breathing fairly rapidly. he trys to swim but always ends up on his left side. colour is normal, and all other fish in the tank are behaving normally. gave him up for dead four days ago but he keeps hanging on. hes staying on the bottom, not rising for air as the other corys do sometimes. any advice would be appreciated.
  14. Hi guys, the fighting has stopped. I moved the male a day after the eggs were eaten for 48 hours then returned him to what seemed to be a good reception, they are now back to cleaning their favorite spot, 4th time lucky hopefully. cheers for all the advise flosty and good luck with your fish.
  15. yes he is a young male, still learniing i guess, the eggs were gobbled while i was at work today, the fighting has now stopped. patience is the best tool right now i think.
