  1. It doesn't really matter about your flow.. Generally it is a good idea to have the filter disturbing the surface it aids in the gas exchange (like an airstone) but not a good idea to rely entirely on it (ie if your filter fails and the surface isn't getting disturbed all your fish die). This wont be an issue in a tank your size with your stocking but can become an issue in hotter weather in heavily stocked tanks. Shellies seem to handle a bit of flow I am not sure what they like in nature I am sure you can find some articles on it somewhere, or maybe videos of them in the wild to compare it to but they seem very tolerant, same with the jullies.
  2. Lol you don't ask for much do you? Would take hours to compile.. Anyway we did a rough list a while back it is probably out of date.. http://www.fishkeepers.co.nz/forums/vie ... =18&t=2544
  3. Most people who have dogs that eat chickens usually leave the doors on them closed? Or at least only let the chickens out when the dog is locked up.. You can actually train the chickens to come out for a few hours and then feed them/lock them up again we used to do this with our chickens when I was younger. Now that your dog has done it once it will be difficult to stop it happening again.
  4. Zayne this is a chicken coop http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 215487.htm this is what people who have animals who eat chickens keep their chickens in so they don't get eaten.
  5. A mate of mine has been convinced by his misses to leave his good job in Auckland and move to Taupo.. He has been convinced that there are tons of really good jobs you can walk into down there in the geothermal industry?
  6. Or build a descent chook house and keep your chooks safe..
  7. Good news Simon, did the microworms show up?
  8. I have 35 tanks running and spend around half an hour a day (3 feeds/fish checks min) and 1-2 hours for water changes 1 day a week. Obviously if I am stripping or catching fish I spend longer but the above is all I need to keep them alive and healthy. It obviously doesn't include the time when I just pull up a chair and sit and watch the fish etc..
  9. How big is your tank and how many dubs do you have?

    ANY CLUES?

Are the fish getting skinny before they die? And what sorts of african cichlids are they all haps/mbuna/peacocks is it a certain type that is dying more than the others? What are you feeding?
  11. It should be fine to remove it as soon as the blue is gone although I am more a fan of just water changing things out.. Just throw the carbon away it soaks up stuff and is no good after it has been used.
  12. I think HFF still have the aqua one cf1200s for $132 they are very good filters for that price, or else the sunsun 1400LPH ones on trademe also seem to get pretty good comments.
  13. You should be able to just copy/paste your you tube link here so we can click on it and see?
  14. lol could search and find all the issues with eheims/fluvals but there wouldn't be any point As with everything you will get the occasional bad one or operator error that can pop up especially after over 2 years of use..
  15. I have never had any issues with the ones that I have, are you sure you have everything lined up right before forcing it? I tend to use brute force before I actually find out why it isn't working and break/bend things and make it worse..
  16. Sure its a cichlid maybe, it is hard to tell.. Do we get a photo or is it just random guess?
  17. What is biofilm? You have to push the baskets together when you put it back together to make sure that it seals that is fairly usual for these things... Just make sure that there is no media or anything in the way and that everything is on straight etc..
  18. There were some guppies that came in a few years back as venezuelian guppies that were similar to endlers from memory cesarz had some pics up on here of them..
  19. lol mine isn't a good example I still haven't put the bolts through, but yeah just copy mine and bolt it and you should be fine, just don't stick all your wood outside so it gets warped and make a wonky stand like I did.
  20. Awesome congrats guys Now to get a few more! From what I have read the fry are pretty undemanding and easy to raise.
  21. As above we have stuff all options in NZ so we have to inbreed, I would guarantee 99% of the stuff we get into the country (ie an entire batch) would probably be from very similar blood lines so unless we manage to get fish the from one import batch keep and breed them and then get the same fish (easier said that done) again from a later importer there wouldn't be any point. At the stage we are at in NZ we just have to get them breed and worry about genetics if there are issues down the line - beggers can't be choosers
  22. I find it interesting that it happened at 2am I would have expected it at 2pm when it was at its hottest, like diver said are you sure that the heater isn't faulty?
  23. lol And if you wanted to add even more albinos I have albino auratus as well breeding like mad
