  1. I will put my apologies in for this now. It is both my daughter and wife's birthday (really easy to remember) so will be doing things with them

    White Poo

What are you feeding? Some foods can cause the fish to have white poos..
  3. Your right However with the quality of stuff we get in NZ we just have to get what we think is the good stuff and hang onto it and breed it, even keeping species in the same groups they were imported with and selling them with the same names will get half descent peacocks out there.. Now all we need is for someone to import some A grade peacocks out of germany.. Maybe some eureka, ruby reds and/or good quality F1 or wild stock! Wouldn't that be a dream to see some of them in the country! Ah yes I could tell the force was strong in you.. You will come back over to the light as your mature
  4. If they are not the dominant fish then they will most likely not colour up fully.
  5. Those zebras are cool They have started breeding too so should have some fry in the future if you want some, so far they don't seem as agro as other zebras so wonder if they are soft like the albino auratus.. Yeah the peacocks came to me as a maleri red so as per usual the carry on with that name, I guess they are more maleri than red shoulder because the red/orange goes further into the body the flash did bring out more of the blue in the body than what was actually there. The rusties are just starting to breeding, have their own tank.. Hoping to spread these a bit too once I have bred enough to get a big colony going.
  6. Thats cool, myself or Neon (she is planning the whole thing) will go through this post and send messages to people who are interested after details are sorted.
  7. lol what a shame you have gone over to the dark side with your big tank then.. :an!gry lol patience is a virtue... He is only around 6-7cm long and has had a hard life so far, just starting to come into his colour, he will colour allot more and get the yellow/gold blaze all the way to his nose with time. The female is fattening up nicely, he is quite an agro bugger so need to make sure she is really ready stick them together and then remove him straight away to let her hold.. Will be interesting. I think you have maleri reds from me, if not I have tons of spare males.. Yeah it is the barring on them that makes them cool, some just turn into pink fish with red eyes and look a bit boring.. I still have no idea what type of zebra they are thought they may have been afra initially with that barring but no idea either way they breed true and they are cool it is a very old line that has been breeding for many years so they are pure to some degree
  8. They are all peacocks problem is with photos when you skew the angle of your camera you also change the angle/shape fo the fish.. Put them in their own tank feed them up and they will colour up for you..
  9. A few more pics, went out there to get some of the lithobates for various people and snapped a few more.. Rusties Finally almost got a good shot of the jacob above flaring up.. Azuzures Difference between dominant and sub dominant.. Maleri red peacock Maleri gold peacock More of those cool albinos And the male lithobates - showing some good yellow coming through in his fins and the start of his blaze extending down to his nose.. Calvus This is what happens when you try and pimp on your sister who your brother is breeding with, he rips off half your tail and smashes the crap out of you..
  10. Terrible pics, he is in my big mixed tank now that I have stopped breeding them and the tank has no lighting and has decided to go all cloudy for some strange reason.. Plus I am crap at taking pics
  11. The first is a male, the second has pointed fins but no egg spots yet, last has an obvious egg spot so difficult to tell they may be too young, venting is a good idea but venting young fish is hard especially if you have no experience in it. Give it a go, just google it.. I took some pics of the dad of these fish last night for you too will post it later, didn't take any of the girls though..
  12. The Auckland fish keepers association is having its annual tank crawl on Saturday the 22nd October, more details to follow but will be starting mid morning and ended mid afternoon at my place then we will be heading to the malt house (or similar) for a late lunch. http://www.malthousegreenhithe.co.nz/ At the moment we only have a few peoples places to visit so if there are any people who have tanks they would like to show us please let us know (please email the club email in my signature) your address and the number and types of tanks you have. If it works with the travel plan and timings then we would love to come and see some more tanks Also if anyone would like to tag along on the tank crawl let us know again by posting here or using the email address and we will let you know where/when it is starting. You do not have to be a AFA member to join in or show your tanks the more the merrier, but if your not a member once you see how awesome we are you will want to join :smln: :sage:
  13. Lol what did I sell you them as? I honestly can't remember every fish I sell but if the 3 fish were the same then they will be cobue..
  14. If u got them all from me they are all nyassae cobue..
  15. Mostly colour is based on dominace the fish won't colour up well until they have a place in the tank.. I think the only fish that would fit this description that I may have sold around May would be nyassae cobue peacocks.
  16. Lol wait till you have kids and you get no sleep on top of all of that
  17. I think the only thing I have been breeding up here that looks like that is a cobue peacock, but that looks the wrong shape to be one of them.. It is showing colour, but probably wont colour up further with those big peacocks in the tank - the joys of a mixed tank I guess.. Get some better pics and we can go from there..
  18. First question as always where did you get it from and what did you buy it as? I agree with rcon it looks like a male and frmo the same it appears to be at least some part fryeri.
  19. Could be flukes, try and treat with praziquantal.
  20. Have they gone black as well?
  21. I have usually done a water change and dosed with prazi and then left it without water changes for 3 days then just water changed as per normal after that. I haven't used prazi with clown loaches but it is generally regarded as being a pretty safe med.
  22. Yeah mate, you have a nice big drive no need for cars in the garage
  23. I have found smaller fish will always grow slower and get less colour etc with bigger more dominant fish in the tank. The smaller fish will get less food and not be as dominant, I think that dominance has something to do with how fast they grow it definitely has allot to do with how well the colour when they mature. Fish also secrete a growth hormone to ensure that they grow the biggest and strongest, the more bigger fish you have in the tank the more the smaller fish are affected by it. This is very common in discus and most people who are serious do huge water changes to remove this hormone along with any other waste. You are always better to grow fish out in other tanks they will grow faster, bigger and more colourful, but sometimes we are limited by the tanks we have etc.
  24. Hard to say what is going to happen mate.. Maybe try them in a breeding net first if the fish go phyco and try and eat them then wait a bit, it is always best to wait until they are far bigger than you think, it only takes a moment of the fish being stunned or swimming fast for the bigger ones to hit them and then they're gone. If you put them in the bigger tank they will grow slower, they will be the smaller fish in the pecking order, get less food etc it is just what happens..
