  1. Yup sure does AC motors wont go on a DC supply so its all good computer supplys have all sorts of voltages and can supply a bit of current..
  2. couldn't you just goto your local supermarket and get one of those cheap as fans and use that? would be alot easier than trying to make it up yourself..
  3. Cars generate AC using an alternator maybe its using that.. I read you had put squirrel cage fan.. And I presumed it was a squirrel cage motor used for a fan. Ie a squirrel cage fan motor. All I know from my studies is that if it is a squirrel cage motor it is AC maybe someone else knows more.. Have you tried the old faithful and googled/yahoo'd it.. or maybe www.howstufworks.com?
  4. A squirrel cage motor is an AC motor and the squirrel cage reference is to the shape and design of the rotor (deisgned to produce a magnetic field inside it to actually react and cause the rotor to actually rotate) So your looking for something to supply you AC, I would do your research on the output from the alternator/voltage reg on the car your fan came out of to see what sort of transformer you need..
  5. You could always do yourself a background out of poly/concrete.. Theres lots of posts on cichlid forum (or i think on here) on how to do it..
  6. Maybe theres something usefull for someone on here.... http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=41
  7. Sorry was on my partners account by accident if your confused..
  8. They will be some sort of zebra we weren't really impressed by the fish they had for sale, Except for their display tank we'd happily take (lol and we've already tried) their ice blue and aurora off their hands The fish they had were really small anyway probably at least half to a third the size of being mature and you may run into problems with just a pair or trio. Your tank will look better with more fish in it anyway. We have never done it that way before maybe someone else can help we just have a heap in a 4ft (soon to be a 5ft) tank and remove holding fish when we notice them, lots of rockwork and targets mean that any one fish doesn't take too much of a beating and even holding females are safe.
  9. There shouldn't be.. All you have to do is goto photobucket.com register and upload your photos there. Then you can select the picture/pictures you want and click on "generate html and img code" and cut/copy the stuff in the "img for message boards" box and paste it straight into your message..
  10. You will need to use some sort of polish after the sandpaper just to buff out the small scratches left by the sand paper. Maybe try the finest sand paper you can.. Probably best to try on the lid or something first to make sure you wont make it any worse. I used a kit to get scratches out of plastic was called a micro mesh kit and I had the acrylic version but noticed in the pack there was an aquarium one as well.. I dont know where to get it from (as the one I used was at work) maybe google it in nz or ask around mitre 10 etc..
  11. LOL yeah makes you wish you had a real big net and a private jet
  12. ok try this one  http://www.aquanet.de/video/nsvideo-2.2 ... 733300.asp
  13. I know this will probably only work for people with broadband but its pretty cool... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 651186.htm
  14. I haven't seen any of them for sale in any of the shops around here, most likely if they are they're under different names.. Im sure whats isn't in the shops isn't a reflection of whats around though theres probably people with them good luck finding them! Maybe ask your LFS whats on the wholesale list?

    What to do?

At the moment ive got them at 26 degrees because they're in a community, I thought they were past breeding as they packed a sad in the barebottom.. I fear the male may be on his way out as he's got some bad fungus on his head that I cant seem to clear up.. Its not affecting him but I think it will get him in the end, so wont have a chance for this pair in another tank. Ill try take out the gravel and let everyone know what happens...

    What to do?

They dont settle well in a barebottom spawning tank I have alot of spare tanks and gear but they just dont breed in there.. I have tried many times before but they're happier in the community tank. It is probably their 6th spawn so I cant see them starting to look after them in a hurry, I may just try and take out some gravel they will all be eaten anyway so I might as well try..

    What to do?

My pair of blue rams have laid again in my community tank.. They always lay on the gravel and then eat them about day 3, I really want to save the babies... Does anyone have any ingenious ways that I can remove the eggs and the gravel without squashing them (or with a minimum of squashing) as im sick of them eating them... Thanks Ryan
  19. Yeah I was hoping to make my own sensors if they were diyable I mean ive got quite a strong background in electronics but it looks as if they are fairly specialised and even if a company does publish how it works the likelyhood of getting the specialized components is very slim..
  20. Pity your in bulls, One of the jansens up here has a heap of hybrid peacocks for $5ea some of them look like they have the potential to be very nice fish and for someone not wanting to breed them it wont bother you that they're hybrids..
  21. I would have thought that if you were posting someones personally information it would be deleted for obvious reasons.. But if you were posting a business's name to get them business surely there would be no problems? Free advertising...
  22. Maybe (if you can find it) a peacock male, awesome colours and attitute..

    fight night

Yeah if they're jaw locking then it means they are fighting for dominance, sorry didn't pick up on that.. I guess the best thing to do is to make sure their are plenty of targets (even though they will likely just go at each other) and also lots of space and rocks for them to establish a terriotory each or if they wont sort themselves out (they may hurt each other or just scrap all day) keep them in seperate tanks or give one the flick..

Overcrowding is the plan with africans or as Daniel mentioned adding fish of different shapes/colours..
  25. I have every intention of building at the very least a system to moniter some of the things, if I can monitor it then it wont be hard at all to do a controller as well.. We were thinknig along the lines of using a buffer and feeding it into the ADC like you do with temperature.. Any idea what a standard PH probe is? How does it detect the PH? It sounds like what were after and im sure if we figure out how it works we can build one.. "Standard pH probes typically output a voltage of 0v at a pH of 7 then 58mV per decade (for each pH point) in either direction (positive and negative)."
