LOL you will find it funny but they have fish that look like both in the tank.. I am assuming ones an aurora and ones a zebra ice blue... Either way I want both but yeah ive found the same thing just tried to average out the fish and decide what name belongs to what..

Did you buy the single one in the tank and pet city?

We have some baby discus that we brought and they are slowely dying 1 by 1.. Symptoms are they breath really heavyly look like they cant swim and then lie on the bottom breathing fast until they die.. The tank is 120 litres I change 20 a day use declorinator stress zyme etc.. Apart from the heavy breathing and eventual death I cant see anything else wrong with them. Any help is much appreciated. I tried to get the stuff to worm them with (thinking it could be the problem) from the vet today cant remember what its called off hand but I had an empty bottle someone gave to me, and its been in a few posts on here but they wont give it to me because they recon its highly illegal to give it out and the vet will loose his licence.. Any ideas how to get this?

Pretty sure its just leaching and should be fine.. Probably boil it a few times until the waters clear otherwise your tank will go light brown..

Yeah pet city in Hamilton was where I saw them in the dispaly tank and who ive been dealing with to try and get some.. Dealing with Rachel in the fish section.. She said some were in quarantine so hopefully they get some in..

hmmm ok I dont know what happened with the pics but its all good now.. Yeah im a bit worried about buying them as pairs/trios from the pet shop as a female could be any number of species and then if they breed you get hybrids that are no good to anyone..

I saw these africans in a display tank in a pet shop in Hamilton the other day just wondering if anyone has any or has seen any for sale as id like a pair or trio of each, I put my name on the large waiting list for some at the shop but dont know how successful ill be.. Aurora Cichlid (Metriaclima aurora or Ps http://www.bigskycichlids.com/Maurorax.htm Zebra Ice Blue Maybe someone breeds them... Hopefully anyway..

I got a Jebo 819 its a good filter, I find it harder than the aqua one to service but clears up the tank pretty fast..

The bristlenoses I have brought recently were only about 1 to 2 cm total length I adjusted them to the tank gradually and ive had no losses so you should be fine..

Hi I noticed one white bulge on my blue rams head a week ago and now theres 2 does anyone know what they are and if they are a problem... Im thinking maybe hole in the head but my waters been pretty good so who knows, its not affecting him at the moment but only time will tell.

I dont see why you couldn't do the whole lot at once. As long as you have an extablished filter and save some of the original tank water you should be sweet.. You could just use big bucket for your fish (I use a babies bath) leave your filter/heater going in there while you do it..

So far I think I have a kenyi male (pics labelled kenyi male) A kenyi female (pic 5) And some sort of Labeotropheus (pic 7) Maybe someone here can shed some light, the cichlid thread has been dead for a few days now hopefully this kicks it off again..

There was a post on it a while ago, from memory the conclusion was fishing nylon or a razor blade haven't tried either myself yet so dont know how well they work... good luck!

If you want to stick your hands in and make a mess you can use an old eftpos card to scrape it off, its relatively soft enough not to scratch the glass... It may take a while in a 700L tank though!

yeah after doing some googling on Kenyi's it looks like I have alot.. There was a large yellow male that I lost in transit which looks alot like he was a kenyi male and some of the smaller ones are going yellow.. Any idea what the big bluish ones are?

So how do I tell if the ones that I have are hybrids? Is it just an experience thing? I dont really want hybrids or for them to breed because there have been babies from the fish in there..

Yeah I had hoped that wouldn't be the case, the last lady called them cichilds because she had no idea what they were thats why the poor gourami was in there as well she even though he was a cichlid and called the bolivian rams snapper.. The rams and gourami is safe now in my community tank so its all good now hopefully their fins will grow back and they'll cheer up. I was just hoping to id some and figure out what I had pairs of etc so I could build up numbers, the pet shops up here seem to have very specific species etc on the front of their tanks which would suggest they arn't all hybribs?

I picked up a tank off trademe and it came with some african's the last owner had no idea what they are and just called them cichlids.. I have no idea what they are the only one I could id was an electric yellow that died in transit.. They even have a dwarf gourami and bolivian rams in with them which have obviously taken a beating so are being moved to my community tank.. Also once ive id'd them does anyone have any suggestions on what would be good to add to add a bit more colour because its a bit drab now the yellows have died.. Thanks Ryan

LOL Ok ill give it a go.. I guess $280 for a setup 6ft with fish etc isn't too bad... Any builders out there keen to rebuild my house if it all goes pear shaped? hehe Will let everyone know how I get on the next big mission I guess is getting it from south Auck to here....

Hi im looking at buying a 6ft tank but am worried about my house handling the weight of it.. The house is a typical 50's "state house" style one with hardwood floors etc.. Im renting so dont think a tank throught the floor is a good look..
