  1. A pair I guess, the methods I have seem use multiple pairs each pair in a separate tank to guarantee at least one pair breed's.. Apparently its important to get young fish as the females ovaries or something harden and they don't produce eggs or something like that, haven't done it myself so don't really know.
  2. Could be a bad idor dodgy fish.. Or could just be one of the many poor quality electric yellow's imported and bred in nz.. Any chance of a pic?
  3. I would classify a breeding pair as 2 fish that have bred and raised fry successfully.. However you could say this is for a breeding pair of "xxx" they lay egg's which I have to remove and hatch myself.. As david said be careful if you haven't actually seen the eggs hatch or fry..
  4. Is it big?..Were getting my wife's best friend a rabbit and hutch tomorrow and maybe we could get this one to...Do ya have any pics??
  5. He was saying the red shed has the power meters for $20 that tell you how much your hobby is costing you..
  6. I thought prazi was used for flukes mainly? I'm getting confused..
  7. http://www.medicinenet.com/metronidazole/article.htm Says "Metronidazole is an antibiotic effective against anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites" I guess the worms are sensitive to it too? It is good for worming fish and works discus breeders use alot of the stuff to keep their discus in top shape have heard some recommendations of regular worming cycles for fish but that seems a little hard core to me..
  8. I worm my fish with metro, I wormed my rams when I got them because I have had no end of trouble keeping them alive and I thought it wouldn't hurt..
  9. I breed them All things going well I will have 20+ for sale in a month or so.. An awful lot cheaper than the shops, and yes Anthony sells the lionheads he's on here sometimes as bigmills If your buying a new tank for africans go for 4ft or a big 3ft might as well get as big as you can afford
  10. You might get away with demasoni and lionheads in those tanks lionheads don't get overly big and aggressive neither do demasoni, well demasoni get aggressive so you have to buy min of 12 of them.. Demasoni would be a bit iffy in there as you dont have a very big foot print for your tank. If it was a 150L 3ft tank then it would be sweet but as they like to have terriotories then it probably wouldn't be too good. My colony live in a 540L 5ft and my dominant male owns the whole tank. I would suggest you use one of those tanks to grow them out in and buy a bigger one later, with a bigger tank you have more options for companions for them too. Your tanks aren't big enough for most other africans you could do some jullies and thin them out as they pair and have 1-2 pairs in there, or maybe some yellow's because they stay relatively small and peaceful.

    filter carbon

I don't use it in any of my tanks.. I have it in case I need it to remove med's or if I have a really stinky tank but haven't had to use it in years. I have heard all sorts of things about how it can cause more harm than good and IMO its not needed in a healthy tank.
  12. Agreed it will only take it out of the air, good for condensation on the windows and stopping mold growing etc.. Also good for when you overflow your tank and need to dry out the carpet so your lounge can be usable again
  13. Yeah ive got 2 pairs of nz bred golds (have babies almost free swimming from them) and 1m 2 f nz bred blues (hopefully breeding soon) and they are very nice fish seem to be doing alot better than the imported ones ive had before
  14. In a planted 4ft with a few hiding places the loner should be ok, he may get a hard time sometimes but shouldn't get killed If your worried just post a for sale/free post on here im sure someone will take the extra male..
  15. lol oh yay looking forward to the super constructive and informative posts they make...

  17. Try with a different browser.. Or maybe get a program like regcleaner and clean out your registry see if that fixes it up.. If that doesn't work you might have to start again with a fresh install of windows it always helps sort everything out..
  18. Sweet cheers Ron I was going to try that but unsure if it would kill them..
  19. Very nice pics and good looking fish nice same sizing striping too Good luck with them and remember to keep in touch
  20. Yeah it does suck and it seems like everyone is against you when noone will help you out, the petshops don't know or don't care what they're doing cant/dont get the drugs and will only sell you stuff they can make money off.. I wish we could get some of the medicines the states can get, alot of them have off the shelf anti-parasitic med's, anti-fluke med's, and even a general cure all that has stuff in it for everything.. Obviously the cure all wouldn't be ideal as your treating for alot of stuff that your fish don't have but it would be better than nothing.. I guess the only problem is that all the active ingredients in these are prescription only med's here so it wont happen Best advice I can offer you is to have a chat to your vet, I did it when I was already getting our cat seen, if one vet isn't happy to give you stuff then try another and another, I think we have 4-5 vet's working at our local one but the 2 I tried were sweet to give me stuff for fish provided I was asking for harmless stuff..
  21. Does anyone have any methods they use? The eggs are all close together and im trying to get the couple of fungused ones out from the rest have tried a syringe but its too big and sucks up heaps of them or when I try and use it to blow the bad ones off sends all the good ones flying..
  22. Although there is no doubt who is right here I have tried cutting glass by scoring back and forth over the line it didn't work.. I have also tried cutting it by scoring both sides that didn't work either, the only thing that worked was one descent score on one side and snapping the glass or turning it over and tapping the break along the score..
