  1. That looks just like a female dragons bloods to me..
  2. I have run out of heaters and was working on the theory its got to be cheaper to heat the room than the tanks individually and buying more heaters.. I spent a few hours out there today working on getting the door better insulated so will see how that goes
  3. The prime silvers I have seen resemble a draongs blood but have more silver on them, just another line bred hybrid fish. You might have some luck if you do google searches for strawberry peacock, strawberry blue peacock, golden peacock etc as they're all hybrids something might match up with what you have, they were quite cool looking fish from the oens I saw in hutt pets anyway
  4. Electric blues as in fryeri? I would say yes to them from personal experience with them being nice natured Info from the various articles etc on the net would suggest they are pretty agro but I haven't found that.. Did hutt pets have jullie ornatus?
  5. They have jullie ornatus are they on the list? Are they actually ornatus or transcriptors or maileri As for stocking levels I wouldn't for for 10 of any jullie because they are pair forming fish and it woudl get messy when 2 pairs form later down the line. 10 yellows would be good You could go for something that contrasts well with yellows like demasoni and a trio of one type of peacock or 3-4 male peacocks.. Stay away from most of the hap's dolphins/giraffes etc unless you plan to upgrade again. Tank looks good by the way
  6. lol I don't have the tanks to do the whole garage theres no point in making it too big and it costing a fortune to heat space with no tanks.. Ill take some pics after ive finished tidying up out there today, I have been working on trying to insulate the door as I feel that is probably where most of my heat is being lost so will see how that goes. I think ill hunt around for a fan heater and wire it upto one of the old heater thermostats see how that goes Ira did your fan heater have a thermostat or a couple of heat settings? The ones ive seen seem to have a couple of switches for heat settings which I presume will just pump out a certain amount of heat regardless of the room temp? But I haven't played with one yet..
  7. I just use the good old fashioned little bit of salt and if the tank has a heater up the temp a bit. It always clears it up and im not pouring many potentially harmful chemicals in there, have also treated it on clown loaches like this too and had no trouble.
  8. Thanks I was going for the fan heater idea, what exactly is a Tangential Fan Heater as opposed to a normal fan heater? And fan heaters dont have thermostats so ill have to wire one of them upto it as well?
  9. They sure do I keep them in all of my african tanks and they make a huge difference mine have even got so used to it they breed in the african tanks, yes the africans do graze on the algae but if your only keeping peacocks they're not as big on algae as mbuna and even they don't seem to do much by themselves my suggestion to you would be get some bristlenoses to munch on all the algae they don't eat all types but certainly keep things alot cleaner.
  10. Do you have any bristlenoses or anything in there? Just use a phosphates test kit if you dont own one im sure someone around you does you can borrow, or take some water to your LFS and ask them to test it for you..
  11. lol mine stays white too I had problems with algae in my tank too I changed food and it disappeared I was having huge problems with phosphates, do you have any algae eaters in your tank? Do your peacocks actually eat the plants? Ive only had trouble with mbuna eating plants and have managed to plant a few plants around in my peacock breeding tanks and have them live, might be an option to soak up some nutrients so the algae has less food?
  12. I think it maybe the insulation on the door that is letting me down but it is very hard to line it with the gaps all around it..
  13. Thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention I have a fan running up by the roof oscillation around in theory pushing the hot air down to heat the lower tanks.. Is there any way to get a cheaper thermostat? I was hoping to use one of the old school external thermostats that used to come with heaters? Obviously an electronic one would work better but cost more, wish I was still at uni I would make one with a micro but don't have the gear anymore. All the tanks are full even if they have no fish in them to work on the whole storing heat idea Have looked into heatpumps but im not going to spend that much have been in touch with heatpump sellers and think it would be an overkill both in price and performance for such a small room and not many tanks. When you say a one bar heater you mean an column oil heater? Or a one bar element heater?
  14. I have built a fishroom and lined a 3.2 x 2m section of the garage there are 20 tanks in there ranging from 2ft to 5ft only around 15 are setup up until recently I was getting away with no heating at all in there and it was only dropping down to 24ish overnight now with the colder nights its dropping down to 20ish so now ive got to look at heating options. I have tried an oil heater but that chewed power and seemed to be on all the time even when the room got upto 30C no matter what the heat setting was, I think this has a thermostat as I could hear something clicking as I adjusted the dial but it didn't work very well. Ideally I need something that wont turn on when its not needed as it wont need to add much heat to heat the room as its soo small, just something to bump it up a bit, have thought about trying to design something with 100W lightbulbs and old fishtank heater thermostat's but dont know how well this would work.
  15. Awesome who's breeding the orange ones? They're cool fish! Have you got any yet?
  16. If they're swimming sweet as you are probably sweet as to strip her and let her recover, sometimes they hold them for so long by the time they release them the fry are half starved..
  17. Were they free swimming? If you leave it in the tank with her she may or maynot take it up again..
  18. Is your tank in direct sunlight and have you tried testing phosphates?
  19. lol yeah I dont like the ballon ones either if you do a google search you will find all the information you require if you feel you have to breed them
  20. Dont feed the female most females cant eat at all some learn to eat a little but it might encourage her to spit/swallow early.. Microworms are awesome its what I feed all of my babies and its soo much easier than hatching brineshrimp.
  21. Man that would be an awsome concert My mate who's a hard out musio always classified the pumpkins as a great band because he said they could actually play a live show! I would love to go but don't think ill be able to
  22. Sweet as No need to produce anymore hybrids.. Cobalts are very nice zebra's I have just finally got mine breeding successfully as well which is cool. Good luck with the babies there is no need to feed them brineshrimp if you dont have any they go well on crushed flake also.
  23. Yep that would be fine Just make some hidey holes for her to chill out in. Do you know who the father is? Ie did you watch the spawning or only have one type of zebra in there?
  24. All the advice above sounds good to me I strip at 2-3weeks also so the female doesn't get too run down but letting them spit in there own tank is also ok if you feed them up.. Also if there are other zebra's in the tank who is the father?

    Gold Rams

If they want to lay they will lay on the bottom of the tank, if they're skittish add some dither fish and they will come out of their shell's Good luck mine layed on a terrocotta thing I had in there but recently have been laying on the bottom of the tank not good when I want to remove the eggs!
