  1. She always calms down after she has eaten the photographer.
  2. You would need to know what you are doing with looking after fish or be prepared to learn. Depends on what the shop wants.
  3. Welcome and I wish you success with your new project.
  4. The only thing worse than living under the bridges on the Avon river because EQC don't want to know or do is trying to drive on the roads they have suddenly decided to do repairs on or to. I think the richest person in town must be the person who hires the orange road cones.
  5. They are similar to the ones at the warehouse but have a tube metal frame rather than plastic. I bought them second hand off trademe so don't know where they came from new.
  6. I have done a similar but different thing. I built a cupboard heated with a ceramic heater on a thermostat and a fan blowing over the heater continuously to even out the temperature and give fresh air, there are two racks of plastic draws, each containing 5 draws and one lot divided in half. The system will hold 10 small and 5 larger babies and each separated.
  7. Christchurch does not normally chlorinate the water either but with all the shakes going on and repairs to water mains they are required to sanitise the pipework after repairs so some here are using dechlorinaters. If you have no chlorine you will have no need for additives.
  8. You are feeding mould with fish food by gross overfeeding.
  9. If you only have a few fish in there it will cycle naturally. Just keep up the water changes.
  10. I have a friend who is an artist and wants to clean up skeletons of small animals and fish using flesh eating beetles (Dermestes maculatus). I was told they would be present on the pigs ears etc in the pet food department but have been looking for a while and no luck. Does anyone have any or know where I might get enough to start a colony. Happy to pay a reasonable price.
  11. I had large marble rocks in a tank for years without a problem. Calcium carbonate will only be a problem in acid water.

    Hello !

Welcome and enjoy your time here.
  13. Fungal infections are usually opportunistic infections of wounds which may also have bacterial infections, Something like wunder cure may work as it has a range of ingredients that are useful for treating both bacterial and fungal infections as well as parasites.
  14. Wait until they are teenagers and they will have some really cute names for you I am sure.
  15. There is a special type of ptfe tape for CO2 and it should be available from a gas fitting supplies shop. It is only required on certain threads so make sure you use it in the right places.
  16. I have raised leps in the past with added calcium with D3 and no other added vitamins and they have been perfectly OK. Vitamins A,D,E and K are toxic if fed to excess. I feed liquid vitamins on salad twice a week to beardies. I can't understand the desire to get a big fat lizard---a fat lizard is as healthy as a fat person.
  17. It's a good looker with a fat tail. I had some where the white extended a bit further than usual--a bonus?
  18. Welcome and enjoy your time here. There are some very experienced tortoise keepers on this site that I am sure can help if required.
  19. I would go really easy on too much vitamins as the fat soluble vitamins cannot be excreted when overfed and are toxic. I have seen the result of a lep being fed vitamins on all live foods rather than calcium and it was not a pretty site. I have also seen the result of people overfeeding and that is not a pretty site either.
  20. Hardly worth it for one lot of fish. When I imported, I had 7 inspections from Maf over the first 6 weeks and each one cost more than I paid for the fish. You now have to pay for the testing as well and I know importers who have paid thousands for the testing of one type of fish. I would suggest you flag the idea unless you have already won lotto and are wondering what to spend the money on.
  21. there were hundreds of tanks like that around 30-40 years ago and I built a fair few of them. In those days they built from recycled shop window glass and the scratches in would have weakened them as well. Not a problem if the glue is still OK.
  22. You can also clean the hoses by using a "pull through" like when cleaning a rifle.
